Job Description

Our client is a top non-Bank Financial Institution in Ghana, engaged in credit lending, specifically payroll-tied lending, currently seeking to hire a dynamic and experienced individual for the position of Credit Risk Manager.

The successful candidate shall be primarily responsible for ensuring prudent management of the organization’s entire credit portfolio and the mitigation of any risks that may arise. This is an ideal and exciting role offering opportunities for career growth.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Optimize the collections strategy of the business and improve the collections success rate through application of expert knowledge on collections.
  • Assist management in setting the collections strategy, based on historical collections performance and industry best practices.
  • Assist management in setting the originations strategy based on historical collections and industry best practices.
  • Analyze credit data to estimate degree of risk in extending credit or lending money.
  • Analyze collections data and trends as well as sales data and trends.
  • Reduce bad debts as a percentage of performing loans utilization based on effective lending principles applied during approval.
  • Ensure compliance with the governance regime in terms of legislative and audit requirements.
  • Prepare credit risk reports for distribution to and discussion with management and stakeholders identified.
  • Prepare daily/monthly/weekly credit risk reports on business performance indicators within the collections and sales environment.
  • Liaise with operational areas to ensure best practices are applied.
  • Conduct research to ensure best practices are applied.
  • Regularly update knowledge of relevant legislative amendments, industry best practices and provide advice and business solutions to management and other relevant stakeholders by demonstrating a general understanding of the NCA, CP and other legal issues relating to credit and collections.
  • Participate in the recruitment, training, motivation, retention, organization and development of your staff in accordance with the company’s hiring process, and personnel policies and budget requirements
  • Establish standards of performance and monitor conformance of staff through performance review.
  • Contribute to a progressive team environment.

Required Skills or Experience

  • University degree in Economics or Statistics, Accounting, Business Commerce, Business Administration or other rigorous discipline. An advanced degree in one of these fields is a plus
  • 7 years’ experience as a Credit Risk Analyst in a Retail or Financial Services environment, and at a company that provides credit to the middle to low income market or micro lending market where payroll is used as the primary collections method.
  • MS Office (advanced skills) is essential. SAS skills would be an advantage.
  • The ability to work independently off line Management.
  • Attention to detail, self-motivated and deadline driven.
Knowledge and Experience
  • High level understanding of collections methods.
  • High level Technical understanding (Exposure to different operating Systems/databases/programming languages etc)
  • Proven ability to investigate, analyze design and deliver business solutions.
  • Strong analytical, problem identification and process analysis skills.
  • Ability to operate at the conceptual level.
