Job Description

A reputable international Engineering, Design and Construction company is looking to recruit the following experienced and qualified middle-level positions to provide a full range of various job responsibilities and services to the company:

Main Responsibilities
 
Strategic Initiative
  • Assist in establishing client’s requirements and undertake feasibility studies.
  • Prepare cost plans to enable design teams to produce practical designs for construction projects, which involve liaising with architects, engineers and subcontractors. 
  • Prepare cost analysis based on the architectural drawings, engineering estimates, materials required and labour involved.
  • Select, price and source construction materials.
  • Advise commercial manager on procurement strategies.
  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and the client.
Relationship with Contractors and Subcontractors
  • Evaluate tenders from contractors and subcontractors and, where appropriate, negotiate with contractors.
  • Select subcontractors, agree the scope of services and allocate work.
  • Certification of subcontractor monthly valuations and final accounts.
  • Value completed work and arrange payments to subcontractors.
Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Monitor all commercial information in relation to projects including labour, material and cost of sub contractors.
  • Monitor and keep track of the progress of projects.
  • Control all stages of projects within predetermined budget and expenditure.
  • Be responsible for the measurement and valuation of variations in the work during the contract, for agreement of interim payments and the final account.
  • Carry out monthly valuations of work in progress, including forecasting of final costs and sales.
  • Run cost analyses for ongoing repair and maintenance work.
Provide Advice
  • Provide advice to project staff on commercial and contractual matters including reviewing and drafting of correspondence.
  • Communicate regularly with project staff and specialist subcontractors to
  • ensure commercial controls are in place, understood and followed at all times.
  • Manage and produce accurate formal reports in accordance with business timetable.
  • Advise on any outstanding contractual claims remaining.
  • Provide all relevant information to the Commercial Manager and or the Chief Executive Officer for review at specified intervals set.
  • Assist Commercial Manager and or the Chief Executive Officer with a range of other duties as may be required from time to time.
Risk Assessment
  • Identify risks surrounding projects and the likelihood of cost variations and help develop suitable responses.
  • Track any changes to designs or actual works and adjust budget projections.
  • Factor in the implications of health and safety regulations.

Required Skills or Experience

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, construction engineering, construction management, construction economics or related field.
  • 5-10 years of general construction estimating experience, financial experience, construction experience, or related field.
  • Must be part of the Ghana Institute of Surveyors and must be certified by Ghana Institute of Surveyors (GhIS) and a member in good standing.
  • Demonstrable experience in construction contracts.
  • Should have executed at least three (3) projects with the value of US$10 million or more as the QS in charge for a construction project
  • Proficient in computer skills, AutoCAD, Autodesk civil, and Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to use Construction Costing Software would be an added advantage.
  • Experienced at compiling and following strict budgets; strong estimating and financial analysis skills
  • In-depth understanding of construction, materials, pricing, and industry
Required Technical Competencies
  • Good working knowledge of standard methods of measurement. 
  • Good working knowledge of forms of contract currently used within the Building and Civil Engineering industry.
  • Have good understanding of how to perform cost control analysis. 
  • Have excellent understanding of how to prepare valuations and variation claims. 
  • Understand how to price project preliminaries in relation to extension of time.
  • Know the various methods of valuing preliminaries for an ongoing project.
  • Know the various types of contracts Fixed, Fluctuating, All inclusive etc 
  • Understand site materials inventory management and control.
