Job Description

Main Role / Purpose

The Sabre Trust is a development organisation working in close collaboration with the local education authorities in the Central and Western Regions to support the implementation of the Ghana Education Service's plans to scale up quality kindergarten education nationwide. Sabre's Transformational Teacher Training project is an innovative new approach to preparing student teachers for their teaching postings, using a network of model classrooms and mentor teachers.

The employee will be primarily working from a fixed location, either Elmina or Sekondi (please indicate which would be preferable in your application). When the employee is required to work from a different office, he/she will be provided with accommodation and any travel costs by the Charity.

This role will begin on 01 April 2015.

Responsibilities

Managing the monitoring and evaluation for the programme:

  • Create, manage and analyse an electronic and physical M&E filing system for each classroom, to include the Teacher Monitoring Tool (TMT) and data relating to the mentoring aspect of the programme.
  • Create, manage and analyse an electronic and physical M&E filing system for each trainer, to include Trainer Monitoring Tool (TrMT).
  • Provide summary reports after each set of field and training data collection to support monthly reporting to our stakeholders.
  • Regularly update and maintain the internal MEL report for internal reference and collation of key learning and developing programme activities.
  • Assess trainers by collecting, collating and analysing data from the Trainer Monitoring Tool and provide feedback to the trainers.
  • Analyse the attendance data for the programme and create, collate and analyse evaluation forms for Trainers and Trainees for each element of the programme, reporting results to the team, and using them to further refine evaluation form.
  • Collect, collate and analyse attendance data for pupils alongside over and under age data for each classroom.
  • Collate and analyse baseline data at the start of year and comparative data at end of year.
  • Update the indicator tracking tool on an ongoing basis.
  • Liaise with GES officers to share data and plan field monitoring of participants on the programme.
  • Undertake the collection, collation and analysis of field data to monitor progress of participants on the programme, providing regular feedback to the Education Project Manager, including catalogued photographic evidence of change in KG classrooms, both indoors and outdoors from pre programme to end of programme.
  • Collect, collate and analyse Pupil Achievement Record data for all of children in each classroom and feedback to teachers and GES Officers.
  • Validate PAR data by carrying out the IDELA early grade assessment on a 15% sample of pupils per classroom.
  • Collect and analyse College of Education exam results and numbers of distinctions.
  • Maintain contact with a selected number of student teachers who complete the programme and carry out the Teacher Monitoring Tool to monitor their implementation of the programme as newly posted teachers.
  • Attend PTA meetings of KG classes on the programme, provide briefings to attendees as and when necessary, and carry out community score card processes with a sample of parents.
  • In addition support other office administration and teacher training activities where necessary.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Experience in working with statistics.
  • Collecting and collating qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Number of years experience is less important to us than a positive attitude and willingness to be part of the team.
  • A salary and performance review will take place after 6 months.
