Job Description

We are inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of network administrator/engineer as part of our university campus network technical team.

Expected Abilities and Areas of Competency 

It is expected that applicants have ability to: 

1. Plan, design, maintain networks and provide technical support to users. 
2. Administer day-to-day operation of networks. 
3. Implement LAN maintenance and management procedures. 
4. Plan, analyze, design, generate code, test, implement simple to complex software application solutions as needed to design and maintain the network. 
5. Prioritize requests, organize, schedule and coordinate a variety of activities and projects. 
6. Oversee administration of Local, Wide and Metropolitan Area Networks

Required Skills or Experience

Applicants are expected to have knowledge in:

1. Local, wide and metropolitan area networks and internet connectivity.
2. TCP/IP protocol and ports.
3. Routing protocols that include but are not limited to: OSPF, RIP, BGP.
4. Industry standards of network security procedures and policies.
5. Security principles of UPN, 802.1x, wireless security and firewalls.
6. Principles and methods of strategic planning with knowledge in planning, analysis, design, generation and implementation of network design.
7. Proper configuration control, records maintenance and storage for local and distributed environments.

EXPERIENCE

Three (3) years’ experience in all areas of local, wide and metropolitan area network management and engineering including system configuration, setup, troubleshooting, planning, designing, implementation, user support and troubleshooting a heterogeneous network are required.

The successful candidate will have experience in most if not all of the following enterprise level technologies:

• TCP/IP configuration.
• WAN configuration using any hardware.
• Firewall configuration.
• Internet and intranet security.
• Tier 2 support for the network connectivity issues.
• Routing table configuration and troubleshooting.
• Communication with vendor support staff.
• Evaluation and deployment of new technologies.
• Managing ongoing security against both internal and external threats.
