Job Description

The Research Assistant (RA) plays a key role supporting the Performance Manager and is responsible for direct field implementation of data collection, data verification and data reporting on the iDE Rural Sanitation and Hygiene Market Development (RuSHiNG) project in order to support in program goals and objectives.

RELATIONSHIPS

The Research Assistant reports directly to the Performance Manager, as well as members of the Performance Management team, and works closely with other regional project teams especially Regional Sales Manager, Engineering Coordinators, and the Project Team.  The Research Assistant is mainly responsible for the overall data collection and cooperation with other project teams.

PERFORMING OF DUTIES

The scope and emphasis of the position is full time work and based on RAFA, (Responsible, Accountable, Finance and Administration) these may change over time and new responsibilities may be added and existing ones dropped or modified as required.

  1. Responsible
  • Execute as assigned the following data collection activities:
    • Collect data for Human Centred Design Sanitation Deep Dive,
    • Collect data supporting primary and secondary research activities, understanding new developments in sanitation, financing markets, supply chain and governmental/non-governmental activities.
    • Conduct delivery data verification on a monthly basis,
    • Conduct latrine count survey
    • Conduct household survey
    • Assist in organizing customer satisfaction focus groups
    • Marketing effectiveness surveys
    • Market segmentation surveys
  • Complete related forms accurately, completely, and on time
  • Double check collected data before sending to Data Officer
  1. Accountable
  • Make sure that data collection has complied with the guidelines and instructions.
  • Make sure that respondents understand questions very well.  
  • Make sure that data collected is accurate, consistent and on time
  • Make sure that your reports are submitted on time and accurate
  • Make sure that the cooperation with other project teams has gone really well.
  • Make sure that the cooperation with local authority has gone smoothly.
  • Make sure that all documents are confidential and safe
  1. Financial Management
  • Guarantee all expenses and receipts are accurate and consistent
  • Send all expenses and receipts to the Financial Management Team.
  • Reconcile on monthly expenses and receipts with the Financial Management Team.
  1. Administration
  • Make monthly work plan
  • Participate in regional meeting as required
  • Send field activity report on a regular basis
  • Take on any additional works as required by the Performance Manager

Required Skills or Experience

  • Graduated from university with degree in Statistics, Applied Research, International Development or other relevant areas
  • 1 to 2 years’ experience, field research is a plus
  • Experience working in rural communities
  • Understanding of basic research principles and practices
  • Collecting, analyzing and compiling data and preparing reports
  • Ability to maintain accurate and up to date records
  • Experience in work planning, report writing and record keeping
  • Organized, flexible, detail-oriented, and hardworking
  • Excellent spoken and written communication
  • Team-work and problem solving
  • Ability to Speak; Twi, Hausa, Dagbane, Daagare, Fra Fra, or any other languages from the northern three regions of Ghana.
  • Daily travel within province rural areas and frequent trips to regional office
  • Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Holds a valid driving license and  capability to drive a motorbike,
