Job Description

We have a vacancy for Chief of Party in Ghana. The Chief of Party will lead the PROMISE consortium comprising three (3) non-profit organizations (CCFC, Emmanuel International Canada, ADRA Canada. The PROMISE project is based in Ghana, Malawi and Rwanda.

Reporting to the Director, Programmes and Strategic Initiatives the Chief of Party will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance to the PROMISE consortium members by focusing on the following immediate objectives:

Effective project planning, coordination and overall accountability for efficient and effective implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project

  • Accountability for all financial and technical reporting requirements of the project; ensuring individual field reports and aggregated report is consistent with donor requirements and all compliance regulations
  • Quality assurance in provision of improved delivery of essential health services to mothers, pregnant women, newborns and children
  • Maintaining strict standards and practices in the delivery of improved utilization of essential health services by mothers, pregnant women, newborns and children in each member country, consistent with international standards and best practices
  • Increased consumption of nutritious foods and supplements by mothers, pregnant women, newborns and children

In additional to the above the Chief of Party will be accountable for generating accurate and meaningful reports to the Project Steering Committee, CCFC Head Office, Country Director CCFC Ghana, donor and individual members, this will also include compiling and overseeing Emmanuel International and ADRA reports. The role will also be responsible for regular communications and sharing program related information with internal and external stakeholders, including host governments when required. Other key responsibilities include contract management and compliance, process management, quality assurance, document management, time tracking and project closure protocols.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in a related field; post graduate degree an asset
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in international development with a minimum of 5 years directly supervising and implementing complex multi-jurisdictional programs
  • A recognized project management designation is an asset
  • Proven ability to develop strategic and operational plans and related budgets, and to translate strategy into measureable, achievable tactics
  • Knowledge and experience of sound project management principles including experience in grants administration of projects funded by Canadian government aid agencies
  • Understanding and working knowledge of RBM, Theory of Change, Log frames, and monitoring methodologies
  • Familiarity with and technical expertise in any of the following areas: public health specific to maternal, newborn, infant and child health, nutrition and sustainable health projects
  • Proven experience in effective partnership management and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and funders with respect to compliance
  • Ability to analyze, integrate and use financial data to accurately identify and diagnose key issues and develop strategies and plans
  • Ability to analyze and report on financial, audit and budgeting issues
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, including public speaking, networking and presentation skills.
  • Computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; MS Project is an asset.

  • Excellent oral and written English is required.
  • Extensive local and some international travel will be required.
