Job Description

Reports to: General Counsel 
Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, initiate, maintain and revise policies and procedures for the general operation of a compliance programme and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical or improper conduct. 
  • Respond to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and Standards of Conduct by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures. 
  • Monitor, and as necessary, coordinate compliance activities of other departments 
  • Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk. 
  • Develop/implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provide general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future. 
  • Work with the Learning & Development Unit and others as appropriate to develop an effective compliance training programme, including appropriate introductory training for new employees as well as on-qoinq training for all employees and managers. 
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly and annual legal report(s). 
  • Advise Senior Management on new and regulatory developments and issues which may impact the business.

Required Skills or Experience

  • LLM and LLB from an accredited tertiary institution and must be called to the Ghana Bar. 
  • Minimum of 5 years post call experience.

Required Personal Attributes:

  • Hands-on, proactive, independent-minded individual with good people management skills. 
  • Strong knowledge of legal principles and practices and drafting of legal documents. 
  • Result orientated with the ability to analyse situations and make timely decisions. 

Other: 

  • Ability to supervise legal officers performing professional legal work 
  • Previous experience in a similar position in the energy or related industry. 
  • Strong planning and organization skills; and ability to resolve sensitive legal issues.
