Job Description

Project name: Accra Sanitation, Desludger, Economic and Financial Models for Pricing and Setting Sanitation Tariffs for the Benefit of the Urban Poor, Ghana

Position Summary
IPA Ghana is looking to hire one intern starting in August to help support the Accra Sanitation Project endline survey. The lead researcher on this project are Molly Lipscomb (University of Virginia) and Terence Johnson (University of Notre Dame). The baseline survey for this project was completed in October 2014, and the intervention has been running for nearly two years. The endline survey is scheduled to launch in September 2016, and will survey approximately 5,700 households in Accra over two months. The intern will work closely with the Research Associate to support data management and quality assurance checks of the survey data as they are submitted to our project server.  The intern will help identify and document errors and inconsistencies in the data, and follow up with surveyors to correct them. The intern will spend up to 30% of his/her time in the field with surveyors, and the majority of the time working with data in Stata. Opportunities for data cleaning and analysis, as well as supporting the coordination and monitoring of field work, may also be present

Required Skills or Experience

  • Quantitative training, including econometrics – for example: undergraduate or graduate studies in economics or other field with technical component
  • Knowledge of Stata (required)
  • Knowledge of Survey CTO or other Android based programming software (preferred)
  • Self-starter, resourceful and detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse constituencies
  • Ability to understand and consistently work towards achieving the highest quality data analysis  and documenting steps taken
  • Eager to learn, and gain experience in a fast paced organization
  • Familiarity with randomized controlled trials is a plus
  • Strong oral and written English communications skills
