Job Description

Mission/ Core purpose of the Job
Implement proactive strategies which guarantee that company’s operating licenses are safeguarded; that the business is protected against risks arising from the statutory, regulatory and industry environment ; and that the business can take advantage of available opportunities necessary to achieve its business objectives. Track and ensure 100% compliance (of internal operating departments) of all obligations of company licences and regulations

Key Tasks

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory activities and oversees writing and review of new and existing policies that support organizational goals
  • Constantly review the licensing regime vis-à-vis the operating environment, company’s business objectives, technology evolution and other relevant considerations and report to company’s Executive Management
  • Research social, economic and industrial trends and government expectations of programs and services provided
  • Carry out an environmental scan of the regulatory universe and seek for best practices and other relevant information that will lead to a favourable decision
  • Analyse proposed legislative actions, determine the potential impact on the organization and report/advise on preferred options to advance company’s public policy objectives.
  • Secure company’s interests in stakeholder policy decisions and/or mitigate adverse policy, decisions or outcomes (issue identification, impact measurements and lobbying)
  • Prepare and maintain policy and procedure manuals in line with the department’s process and procedure manual
  • Manage interconnect relationships in alliance with relevant internal divisions and the legal department
  • Promptly advise the business identified proposals and the measures that may be taken to mitigate any identified risk in line with regulatory process and policy manual
  • Proactively identify gaps and address risks in the regulatory and government relations environment
  • Identify all existing legislative obligations binding on company and ensure that these are captured in the compliance tracker
  • Ensure relevant company operational departments responsible for performing tasks leading to compliance are aware of their respective obligations and that they take primary responsibility for these obligations
  • Ensure measures are put in place to ensure compliance and advise the NCA or other bodies responsible for receiving such feedback with the relevant information.
  • Coordinate policy formulation and review including evaluation of policy options and overseeing the implementation of policies
  • Review international best practices and international convention as well as industry trends to develop and/or inform policies
  • Represent the interests of the company in local and regional/global industry groups, think tanks and related organisations
  • Lead on the management of events for government and policy stakeholders in line with stakeholder engagement calendar
  • Prepare monthly reports
  • Cooperate with other departments and lead the support activities for each festival

Supervisory / Leadership / Managerial Tasks

  • Set goals and objectives for direct reports, monitor progress and maintain progress and maintain motivation.
  • Manage performance of team
  • Identify staff training and development needs and implement necessary actions
  • Provide input into staff recruitment

 

Required Skills or Experience

  • Legal education - LLB or other recognised law degree and experience of working in a legal environment
  • 5 years’ experience of guiding Policy in Multi-National/International environment
