Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC), commenced work in Ghana in 1996 in Tamale in the Northern Region. We currently work in 9 districts of Northern and Upper East regions covering a total of 72 communities in partnership with local NGOs.

Job Description

CCFC has a vacancy for a PROGRAM OFFICER in our Country Office in Tamale, Ghana – One-Year Contract

Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of the Program Manager, the Program Officer will support Programs Office to implement, monitor and evaluate programme activities, focusing on supporting programme partners in the assigned geographic areas. 
  • The Program Officer will ensure programme activities are aligned with approved plans and budgets; assist in the direct facilitation and training of trainers to program staff in the Country Office and at the program level; work under the direction of Program Manager to present programme reports to CCFC Head Office, Donors and Sponsors as required.

Key Functions & Results:
Responsibility A – 30 % of Time

  • Directs and provides guidance to partners by coordinating activities related to participatory planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation processes for programmes / projects.
  • Promote active participation of stakeholders in their respective programmes.
  • Facilitate constructive communication among clients, partners and CCFC Country Office.
  • Participate and/or lead working groups providing expert advice both in country and globally.
  • Recommend improvements for Country strategic and operating plans as well as improvements to facilitate the successful implementation of programme partners’ goals.

Responsibility B 30 % of Time

  • Conduct capacity-building training for partners and clients.
  • Visit programmes and projects regularly for the purpose of ensuring plan implementation, and to monitor sponsorship and financial activities. Ensure compliance with CCFC policies and procedures, and to support the quality assurance and quality control initiatives.
  • Undertake and/or recommend corrective measures or enhancements and enforce policies, procedures and agreements as necessary.

Responsibility C 25 % of Time

  • Compile data, analyse and provide relevant reports according to requirements and in a timely manner;
  • Identify and write stories on how children's lives have been changed through CCFC's efforts.

Others D-15%

  • Comply with all CCFC policies and procedures.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Development or relevant development field; a post-graduate degree will be an asset.
  • Minimum five years of work experience in the development field and demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Experience building relationships with development agencies, funding agencies and writing successful concept papers, grant proposals and donor reports.
  • Programme/project planning, management, monitoring and evaluation experience, including budgeting and reporting.
  • Professional experience in one or more of CCFC’s key sectors: Education, Health, Nutrition, WASH, Strengthening Community Organizations, and Sustainable Economic Growth.
  • Experience in practising Results Based Management (RBM) and in using Participatory Development Approach (PDA) tools. Experience in Logical Framework Analysis (LFA) will be an asset.
  • Skills in group facilitation, training, capacity-building and community mobilization.
  • Good interpersonal communications, relationship-building, conflict management and networking skills, especially when developing / maintaining contacts and influencing development and funding agencies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including public speaking, networking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to speak and write in English.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet; intermediate MS Project.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel nationally.
