Job Description

  • The Governing Council of Enchi College of Education announces the search for a dynamic, innovative, research and business oriented person with proven academic and administrative abilities to be appointed as Principal of Enchi College of Education.
  • The successful applicant shall be expected to assume duty by April 1, 2017. 
  • The College has a student population of over 900 and staff strength of 90. It has the vision of developing into a national centre of excellence in teacher preparation. Currently, the College offers the diploma in basic Education programme in two areas, namely; General and French.

The Position:

  • The Principal is the Academic and Administrative Head as well as the Chief Disciplinary Officer of the College. 
  • He/She is responsible for organizing and conducting the academic, financial and administrative business of the College in accordance with the College of Education Act, the Harmonised Statutes for Colleges of Education, the decisions of Council and the Academic Board as well as other national laws and regulations.
  • He/She is also responsible for maintaining and promoting efficiency in the College. 

Tenure of Office:

  • The successful applicant should be able to complete at least one term of four years before attaining the compulsory retirement.

Required Skills or Experience

  • As a College with the mission of preparing competent and reflective professional teachers for basic schools, Enchi College of Education seeks a Principal with outstanding and distinguished academic record, a broad vision of the nature and responsibilities of a public college of education, the capacity to articulate that vision within the college and externally, the ability to formulate policies and programmes to implement that vision, and the administrative competence to implement those policies and programmes. 
  • The new Principal should be an individual with exemplary leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, zeal, energy and the capacity for marshalling the resources needed to carry out the College's vision in the 21st century. Applicants must: 
    • Be at least a Deputy Director in the Ghana Education Service or a Senior Lecturer in a Teacher Education University 
    • Have a minimum of a Research Masters Degree in Education. A Ph.D. degree in Education will be an added advantage. 
    • Have at least ten (10) years administrative experience at the tertiary level of education, with good knowledge and understanding of the challenges facing the Colleges of Education in particular and tertiary education in Ghana in general.
    • Be a distinguished master teacher and scholar in Teaching and Learning
    • Exhibit a high sense of industry, leadership and organizational skills, with a capacity to motivate and direct staff. 
    • Possess excellent communication and inter-personal skills with capacity to manage and control crisis situation.     
    • Be visionary, business-oriented and able to establish rapport between stakeholders in education and the College. 
    • Be sober, mature and with a drive for sound and impartial judgment. 
    • Have a high degree of personal and professional integrity. 
    • Be able to attract grants and funds for Research and Developmental activities for the College. 
    • Show evidence of publications in relevant peer reviewed journal(s), books and conference proceedings.
