Job Description

Role Purpose

  • Responsible for the implementation of financial accounting systems, policies and procedures (including collection, processing, recording, reconciliation and reporting of financial transactions) for the Company.
  • Responsibility includes providing cost – benefit analysis advice to whichever ventures the company enters into.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy and Policy Development
  • Formulate financial management policies and procedures for use at the company. 

Budget Preparation and Control

  • Prepares the company’s annual budget.
  • Prepare variance analysis of revenue and expenditure against budget.
  • Undertakes daily monitoring of all system accounts (General Ledger, Fixed Assets Register, Debtors and Creditors accounts, etc.) to ensure accurate balances.
  • Review and investigate any unusual balances in the General Ledger.

Investment and Cash Management

  • Provide advise/support in monitoring cash resources and working capital levels.
  • Prepare periodic Cash Flow Statements for review/approval by the General Manager.
  • Monitor and update the cash book balances for the the company.

Payment Processing

  • Vet invoices, claims, advances, wages, salaries, and all other payments etc to ensure consistency with laid down policies.
  • Review and approve bills, invoices and claims within prescribed limit for processing/payment.

Stores Management

  • Develop an effective accounting system for the management of Procurement /Stores for the Company.
  • Monitor to ensure that Stores balances agree with the General Ledger and initiate corrective actions on any variances. 
  • Maintain/update Fixed Assets Register at the company and plan for the depreciation/replacement of equipment.

Reconciliation

  • Prepare periodic bank reconciliation statements.
  • Responsible for monthly reconciliation of accounts.

Stakeholder Relationship Management
Maintain good working relationships with external auditors, regulatory agencies and other external stakeholders in the area of financial management.

Information and Reporting

  • Provide input in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and any other reports related to job function.
  • Compile/analyze financial performance reports from subsidiaries and prepare a consolidated     report for review by superior. 

Employee Performance and Development

  • Conduct performance appraisal and provide input for career development and recommend performance incentives for subordinate staff.
  • Identify training needs and facilitate training for subordinate staff.

Required Skills or Experience

  • MBA in Accounting, Finance, Commerce; plus ACCA, CIMA or CA with
  • 7 years working experience; 4 of which should be in senior management position.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge in the use of accounting and auditing methodologies and tools.
  • Project costing/management skills.
  • Knowledge of the International Financial Reporting System (IFRS), Accounting and Auditing Standards and related regulations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Considerable knowledge/understanding of tax laws and related regulations.
  • Considerable planning and organizing skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and execute projects. 
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Great deal of attention to details.
  • Knowledge in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, with strong functionality skills in excel and other accounting software and ERP tools.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Good managerial and coaching skills in a "team" settings
