  • Perseus Mining is a dual listed (Australia, Toronto) gold miner and explorer focused on the West African region. 
  • Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited (PMGL) has recently commissioned the world-class Edikan gold project in the Western Region of Ghana. 
  • Edikan Gold Mine (EGM) has a current mining reserve of 3.3M oz of gold from a resource base of 4.3M oz.
  • The Edikan processing facility has been designed as a 5.5Mtpa processing facility with the ability to expand this to 7.9Mtpa in the future. The plant is capable of producing at a rate of 220-270,OOOoz gold per annum. 

Job Description

Purpose of Role: 

Reporting to the General Manager, the primary responsibility of the Operations Manager will be to lead mine operations (technical services, mining, processing and maintenance engineering) to achieve annual and long-term operational plans and profitability in a safe and sustainable manner by ensuring the operations are aligned with the overall PML group strategy.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide leadership and operational guidance to optimise all mine operations and maximise the long term viability of the operation. 
  • Train and mentor all staff .under supervision and implement programmes for retention of employees 
  • Develop a succession plan for all positions in the mine operations leveraging and developing local talent 
  • Responsible for the achievement of the production and profitability business objectives 
  • Manage the complete mining operations of the Edikan Gold Mine (contract mining and milling operations) 
  • Assess the feasibility and the potential for commercial benefits of new initiatives 
  • Develop Strategic Business Plans, Annual Operating Budgets and Quarterly Forecasts 
  • Liaise with and advise managerial and technical staff 
  • Monitor and evaluate mining and processing performance 
  • Ensure the optimum performance of the operating mine site to achieve current and future targets 
  • Set performance standards and continuously innovate to improve efficiency consistent with our annual mine plans 
  • Direct and utilise the skills of the site based team of professionals in order to deliver business performance expectations 
  • Play a pivotal role in the expansion and development of mine operations 
  • Oversee the implementation of processes, policies, systems and practices within the mine operations to maximise operational efficiencies and competitive advantage 
  • Assist and work with the Continous Improvement team to establish and embed the continuous improvement program 
  • Ensure Cl initiatives are driven through to achieve optimal success and completion to support the achievement of operational excellence 
  • Develop LOM planning strategies which integrates material movement, tailings constructions/maintenance and reclamation obligations 
  • Apply an integrated approach to plant maintenance and ensure that production and maintenance requirements are matched to provide the best production outcomes in a cost efficient manner.

Required Skills or Experience

  • University degree in Metallurgical/Mining Engineering; 
  • 10 or more years of experience in open pit mining operations at leadership level 
  • Exposure to underground operations will be considered as an advantage 
  • Excellent technical knowledge of mining production 
  • Certificate of Competence .from Minerals Commission (Ghana) (Process Plant or Mine Manager) 
  • Experience of managing and leading multi-disciplinary teams within the mining industry 
  • International mining experience 
  • Strong Problem solving and analytical 
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously 
  • Experience of working to international health and safety standards 
  • Ability to manage conflicting work demands and tight deadlines 
  • A leader and driver of change 
  • High level of integrity, pragmatism and trust in all of your interactions with community, indigenous and internal stakeholders     . 
  • Experience of working in a continuous improvement organising.
