Job Description

One of Africa’s leading Communication consulting firms in Accra requires a qualified person to fill the position of Communications Manager. 

General Duties

  • Undertakes communication research and analysis
  • Develops communication proposals
  • Develops  and implements Communication strategies/Plans including social media strategy
  • Builds and manages client relationships
  • Provides editorial services including preparation of press releases, speeches and other communications materials
  • Provides technical Communications input to the work of components in the Communications Department
  • Contributes to the effectiveness of the work of the Communications Department
  • Undertakes issues analysis to inform the development of communication related projects
  • Provides advisory services to clients and the organization
  • Designs social media content that ensures visibility for clients on social media
  • Advises clients on appropriate social media practices to prevent reputational crisis
  • Undertakes media monitoring and analysis 

Supervisory/Managerial Duties:

  • Supervises excellent technical delivery by the Communications Department.
  • Contributes to the development of technical capabilities of the staff of the Communications Department
  • Undertakes bi-annual evaluation of relevant staff of the Communication Department
  • Identifies learning and development needs of team members in order to offer appropriate interventions 
  • Motivates team members to deliver on set targets  

Planning and Reporting 

Develops plans to guide the work of the department
Submits reports on the work of the department
Ensures that subordinates develop and submit plans on their work as appropriate

Other Duties:
Performs any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Required Skills or Experience

  • A Master’s degree in Communications 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication/Journalism/ Public Relations 

Technical: 

  • Extensive knowledge of Strategic Communications, Public and Media Relations and client-facing work
  • Appreciable experience  and understanding of how each social media channel works and how to optimize their content 
  • Ability to develop and implement digital Communication Strategies
  • Good working knowledge of  social media techniques for effective communication
  • Good knowledge of online marketing
  • At least 7 - 10 years post-qualification work experience
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of accounts 
  • Report writing, presentation skills critical
  • Analytical skills critical
  • Experience in media management

 Supervisory/Managerial:
Ability to oversee teams of at least six
