Job Description

  • The Sr.Legal Manager is responsible for the effective and efficient management of the Legal department, provision of legal advisory services and ensuring effective management of legal and contractual risks.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement approved legal policies, standards and procedures for the Company.
  • Vet title documents, draft recitals and legal documents (e.g. bonds, deeds of assignment, tenancy agreements, title deeds, leases, etc.) for review/approval and process same in line with prescribed legal processes.
  • Assist Company Head- Legal to liaise with relevant departments to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate courses of action have been taken.
  • Provide legal advice or opinions on issues regarding the operations of the Company.
  • Conduct research on pending and/or decided court cases involving the Company and other matters that are of relevance to the Organization.
  • Prepare legal documents for filing at various courts.
  • Respond to cases and demand notices from potential litigants within agreed timelines.
  • Recommend/Participate in alternative dispute resolutions involving the Company as directed.
  • Liaise with External Solicitors and provide update on status of the Company’s referred cases.
  • Responsible for the maintenance/update of database on past, pending and present legal cases to facilitate easy retrieval/accessibility of information.
  • Interpret legal issues regarding laws, rules and regulations within Countries of operations and Staff Conditions of Service and any other HR policies.
  • Stay abreast with legislation, rules/regulations, international best practices and new developments in the legal services.
  • Assist Company Head – Legal in preparing monthly and quarterly reports for the department for executive management meetings.
  • Prepare other Legal reports related to job function.
  • Represent the Company and its employees on both Civil and Criminal matters as directed.
  • Review new legislations and legal precedent and make recommendations on areas that are likely to affect its operations of the Company.
  • Perform any other duty(s) assigned by Company Head- Legal

Required Skills or Experience

  • LLB or BA plus BL (Barrister at Law). A Master’s Degree in Law will be an added advantage.
  • Member of a recognized professional body.
  • Seven (7) years relevant post qualification experience with at least Three (3) years in a managerial role.

Specific Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of Law reports, Statutes, Acts, Rules, Regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding in legal rules and court procedures.
  • Good knowledge/understanding of the operations of the Company and its subsidiaries.
  • Good negotiation, persuasion and conflict management skills.
  • Excellent legal drafting, minutes taking and board secretarial skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and report writing skills.
  • Absolute discretion in handling/dealing with confidential information/data.
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good planning and organizing skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and often pressured environment.
  • Good knowledge in the use of Microsoft office, internet and other legal software and tools.
