TERMS OF REFRENCE

Context
The World University Service of Canada (WUSC) and Centre d’étude et de Coopération Internationale (CECI) both leading Canadian non-profit organisations in international development, are jointly implementing the West Africa Governance & Economic Sustainability in Extractive Areas (WAGES) Project in Burkina Faso, Ghana, and Guinea. Working in partnership with communities, local government, mining companies, and other stakeholders, WAGES will enable communities, particularly women and youth, to maximize the socio-economic benefits from extractive resource investment in West Africa. The project’s principal areas of focus include local governance, sustainable and inclusive economic growth, and regional knowledge-sharing on development best practices in mining areas. 

Nature and Scope
WUSC is looking for Service Providers (SPs) who will provide a well-tailored Management (Entrepreneurship, business development, Business plans etc) and Skills (Technical and Vocational), Gender and Environmental (green growth economy approaches) Training in the Prestea Huni-Valley and Wassa East Districts respectively.  

In particular, the SPs should have the capacity to do training needs assessments, develop training materials and curriculum, proven ability on group formation and support to business associations and cooperatives. SPs should also have a good grasp of Environmental and green growth approaches.

Responsibilities
Generally, the SP will work in collaboration with Business Advisory Centers and other relevant District Assembly Offices of the 2 districts. 

Specifically, the Service Provider will;  

  • Develop Training materials/ modules based on assessments conducted
  • Provide Management (Entrepreneurship and business development) and Skills (Technical and Vocational), Gender and Environment (green growth) Training. 
  • Assess training needs of the trainees
  • Support in the identification of the Trainees where necessary,

Required Skills or Experience

  • Advanced degree in a relevant discipline or relevant work experience deemed as equivalent.
  • Five years training experience in relevant field with report writing skills
  • Knowledge in Agro-based technical skills 
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English. 

The following skills will be essential: 

  • Familiar with or willing to use Facilitation techniques in training. 
  • Ability to work in a team setting and to train women and young people
  • Ability to use local (Twi, Fanti and Wassa) language in training
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • knowledge in green growth and environmental friendly approaches
