Job Description

Our client, a global health organization with the aim of improving the health of people in developing countries is looking for a well-organized and a proactive Learning and Communications Manager to help with their operations in Ghana.

ROLE PROFILE

The successful candidate will establish and execute the strategic direction for the project’s learning, communications, and advocacy agenda in the final two years of the project. The candidate will be based in his/her home country of Cote d’Ivoire, Benin, or Ghana.

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and lead execution of a strategic learning and communication plan for the final two years of the project
  • Gather, analyze, and synthesize project information from diverse sources (stakeholder interviews, project database, team reports, etc.) into compelling learning documents, as per the project learning and communications strategy
  • Ensure frequent, and strategic communication of project learning with national and global audiences through the following media: Quarterly project newsletter, Case studies, Blog posts, Technical guides, Meetings and conferences, Webinars and Videos
  • Actively maintain and expand the project’s online presence, including Facebook, Twitter, global sanitation platforms, and organisation’s web site
  • Manage regional and country-led learning and exchange visits with internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain project’s document and photo libraries
  • Represent and present the program’s progress on behalf of the organisation at local, regional and international meetings and conferences.
  • Contribute to the development and editing of donor reports, research reports, peer-reviewed publications, and conference abstracts.
  • Organize and oversee logistics for project participation in external meetings
  • Assist with layout of documents and presentations; develop templates for sharing project learning; develop graphs and infographics to communicate project learning and achievement
  • Hire and manage consultants and freelancers, as requested by the Chief of Party.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Compile and share learning from program as it develops, tests and iterates on market-based models to increase access to sanitation.
  • Supervise and lead staff and consultants / freelancers.
  • Develop and maintain an online social media presence to reach diverse audiences
  • Collaborate with the technical teams and lead development of the project’s learning and communications plan, which will include strategic learning questions, strategies for gathering the evidence to answer those questions, identified audiences for various types of information and communication, and dissemination strategies for national and local audiences.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Master’s Degree in journalism, communications, environmental engineering, urban development, public health, or related field
  • 10+ years’ work experience in a management position with progressive responsibilities.
  • Fluency in French and working knowledge of English required; fluency in English strongly preferred

REQUIREMENT

  • Must show great leadership and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be dynamic, creative, and passionate about urban sanitation.
  • Proven ability to think and plan strategically for effective communications
  • Must have the ability to communicate complex technical information to a wide audience in simple and engaging terms.
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Must have an advanced skill with PowerPoint and Microsoft Word required; graphic design skills strongly preferred
  • Must have knowledge and experience in developing communications strategies and work plans
  • Experience in writing, editing and preparing communications materials, including layout and design.
  • Work in sanitation or another health or urban development sector
  • Knowledge in graphic design, photography, photo editing, videography experience preferred.
  • Must have the ability to write technical documents on sanitation or a related field
  • Work with colleagues from diverse backgrounds
