Job Description

Job Summary
The Quality Control Officer/Health and Safety Officer will implement measures and provide general oversight, inspection and quality control services, for all aspects of construction projects. He/she will provide the experience and ability to identify and implement a high standard of project execution and completeness of deliverables to represent the Company’s work in order to meet and/or exceed acceptable industry standards resulting in quality products for our client(s). This will include maintaining the highest quality, while administering good construction health and safety practices with all on-site activities.

Core Responsibilities

  • Act independently to ensure Construction Quality Control (CQC) while coordinating all Quality Control (QC) functions so as not to delay construction scheduling.
  • Review provisions that have been made to provide required control inspection and testing.
  • Prepare CQC submittal plan for projects.
  • Coordinate with the Construction Crew Manager on all quality issues, preparation and control of project quality system management documentation prior to project commencement and ensure its implementation.
  • Verify that the quality related site activities are in accordance with the applicable standards.
  • Coordinate with the customers’ representative on all quality matters.
  • Perform daily checks to assure control activities, including testing/compliance, and document all results.
  • Conduct all completion inspections; punch-out, pre-final and final acceptance.
  • Maintain current records providing factual evidence that required quality control activities and/or tests have been performed.
  • Manage difficult customer situations; respond promptly to customer needs, solicit customer feedback to improve service and meet commitments.
  • Promote occupational health and safety within the organisation and develop safer and healthier ways of working.
  • Inspect and test machinery and equipment, such as lifting devices, machine shields and scaffolding, to make sure they meet safety regulations.
  • Make sure that personal protective equipment, safety glasses, footwear, safety helmets, etc. are being used in workplaces according to regulations.
  • Identify and test work areas for potential accident and health hazards, such as toxic fumes and explosive gas-air mixtures, and implement appropriate control measures and make sure all dangerous materials are correctly stored.
  • Make sure that the Company is aware of, and complies with, all legislation in relation to the use of its plants, equipment and substances, as well as in all workplace activities.
  • Help supervise the investigation of accidents and unsafe working conditions, study possible causes and recommend remedial action.
  • Conduct training sessions for management, supervisors and workers on health and safety practices and legislation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary: 2500 – 2800

Required Skills or Experience

Interested applicants must have a minimum of the following;

  1. First Degree in Building Technology/Civil Engineering/Materials Engineering.
  2. Certificate in implementing and auditing ISO 9001 quality standard is desirable.
  3. Certificate/Knowledge in Health and Safety Management is an added advantage.
  4. Must have a minimum of 5 years working experience in a similar position.
  5. Must have experience working in an ISO certified environment; to maintain contact with ISO consultants and adapt to new developments in international standards for quality assurance. Also to maintains contact with Ghana Standard Authority and other relevant bodies to adhere to best practices.

Preferred Skills and Competences

  • Should have the ability to ensure that the quality of projects are consistent with the company's policy requirements together with national and international standards and the customer’s specifications
  • Required to have a detailed and thorough knowledge and understanding of how to read and comprehend construction drawings, engineering reports, and materials specifications.
  • Experienced and trained to ensure that all elements of the approved Quality Control Plan are implemented and enforced on-site.
  • Required to have a thorough knowledge of site and personnel safety methods of construction activities, including personal protective equipment (PPE) and construction equipment safety operations.
  • Effective time management and logical decision-making ability.
