Position Description

An International Private School in East Legon, Accra seeks a dynamic skilled and experienced Principal to start in August 2017. The Principal is responsible for providing day to day leadership, of the educational and operational activities of  the  Creche, Pre-school, Primary and Junior high school.   

The Principal is responsible for managing the academic progress of students; maintaining a climate conducive to teaching and learning; ensuring effective delivery and improvement of instruction; supervising, mentoring, and developing instructional staff; and ensuring that the school meets its defined goals.

PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITES

Academic

  • Uphold school mission and vision and implement School’s 5 year strategic plan
  • Encourage an environment of student success, including a focus on success after graduation
  • Seeks and shares curriculum best practices and training aligned with the school’s philosophy and goals.
  • Maintain direct and indirect student contact to monitor progress and academic success
  • Lead all initiatives to ensure school meets defined enrollment and attendance goals.
  • Implements effective internal assessment systems to monitor the academic the growth of students across short term and multi -year periods.

Communication Student & Parent Relations

  • Maintains excellent relationships with students, parents, community through PTA and school events.
  • Oversees student behavior, with the support of the Pastoral Co-ordinator, supporting a standard of student behavior designed to command respect and minimize school and classroom interruptions, reporting incidents and disciplinary issues to the Principal.
  • Works with the Principal and Pastoral Co-ordinator to identify intellectual, physical, social and emotional needs affecting students’ success in school, taking steps to direct and coordinate the efforts of teachers and parents with staff services and special education personnel.
  • Maintains and promotes the Christian values of school and a climate which encourages a cooperative and participating attitude on the part of all teachers and students.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Assists the Board of Director in development of school policies, rules and regulations and ensuring that they are followed, adhered to and maintained by parents, students and all staff.
  • Oversees the management and confidentiality of student academic records.
  • Displays consistent personal leadership to building staff         
  • Serves as the leader of the Administrative team.
  • Attends all board meetings and prepares reports for the board as requested by the Director.
  • Oversees the administration of special education services

Staff Recruitment and Evaluation

  • Recruit, hire, and retain highly qualified administrative and instructional staff. 
  • Plan and implements staff orientation and year round professional development for teaching staff and administration in coordination with the Director.
  • Set clear and rigorous expectations for staff performance, accountability, and adherence to school policies and procedures. 
  • Develop yearly staff training and professional development schedule to ensure effective professional development and ongoing support.
  • Evaluates teachers in accordance with international performance standards and other best practices

Required Skills or Experience

  • Minimum Master’s degree and/ or Certification in Education and/or Administration.
  • At least (5) years of relevant administrative experience.
  • Relevant experience and deep understanding of the education process, especially British National Curriculum
  • At least (8-10 ) years of teaching experience, preferably in an International school and at least five (5) years of experience with  teacher coaching  curriculum design or student assessment
