Job Description

RECRUITMENT OF PROGRAMS OFFICER, For a Public Policy Think Tank

Our Client is an independent public policy think tank devoted to providing economic policy advice, advocacy and world-class training in Ghana and other African countries. The organization undertakes research into contemporary economic policy issues to generate practicable policy recommendations.  These recommendations are incorporated into a diverse stream of advocacy activities including workshops, fora, press conferences, dissemination of publications, website uploads, social media engagement (twitter, facebook), newsletters, etc. 

Duties of Programs Officer
The Programs Officer will provide support to the Head of Programs and Administration to efficiently and effectively undertake three broad functions: Programs, Website Management and Publications. 

Programs Support Roles

  • Assist with organizing press conferences, workshops, policy dialogues, etc. by liaising with service providers, media houses, etc. This includes making logistical arrangements to ensure the success of all programs.
  • The Programs Officer will also draft program budgets, reports and compile other relevant information. 

Website Management Support Roles

  • Review both traditional and online media for relevant news stories and file appropriately.  
  • Under the supervision of the Head of Programs and Administration, prepare and implement a social media schedule and manage postings on twitter, Facebook, etc. where required, create relevant hashtags for the organization’s social media advocacy campaigns and perform live tweeting at events.
  • The Programs Officer will also operationalize the organization’s quarterly newsletter. 

Publications Support Roles

  • Liaise with printing houses to ensure that publications are printed to high quality standards in line with the quality assurance protocol of the institute.
  • Compile and update an electronic database of stakeholders including government, parliamentarians,  judiciary, academia, private sector, international development partner community, etc. 

Required Skills or Experience

Profile of Ideal Candidate: 

Academic Qualifications
Preferably a Master’s degree holder in any relevant academic discipline. A first degree holder may be considered where job experience is adequate.  

Work Experience
About three (3) years of relevant work experience. 

Desirable Qualities

  • Hard working, eager-to-work, reliable, respectful, proactive, humble, punctual, committed and intelligent  individual. 
  • Teamplayer who is attentive to detail, takes instructions, and is able to ‘think-outside-the box’.  
  • Excellent computer skills including strong word, excel and internet navigation skills. 
  • Familiarity with design software and/or website management skills will be an advantage. 
  • Familiarity with social media – tweeting, etc. 
  • Good writing and speaking skills
