CRS/Ghana Background
Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has been working in Ghana since 1958 in Health, Agriculture, Peace Building, Water and Sanitation, Microfinance and Education programs and has long-standing relationships with Church and non-Church partners and communities throughout the country. CRS/Ghana currently has 61 staff with project offices in Tamale and Accra.

Job Summary:
As a member of the I-SEARCH project team, you will monitor and report on all project activities in support of Catholic Relief Services’ (CRS) work serving the poor and vulnerable. Your thorough and service-oriented approach will ensure that the project consistently applies best practices and constantly works towards improving the impact of its benefits to those we serve.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the coordination and monitoring of project activities at the field level, ensuring implementation schedules are met as per the detailed activity plan, and that adherence to systems for quality project implementation are strengthened.
  • Coordinate communication and facilitate information sharing among the project team, implementing partners, and project beneficiaries at the community level to assist local partners in strengthening the community interest, involvement and support networks.
  • Liaise with various community stakeholders and mobilize them to ensure full involvement of community leaders, community representatives, and local government representatives in the overall implementation and improvement of project activities.
  • In coordination with the project team support capacity building events for community representatives including activity reporting.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and report on volunteer activities.
  • Compile data provided at the community level as per project requirements and contribute to the preparation of reports.
  • Support Monitoring, Evaluation and Accountability and Learning (MEAL) activities through assisting partners in their efforts to collect and analyze project data per specified ICT4D technologies, mechanisms and tools. Collaborate with local partner(s) to prepare reports per established reporting schedule.
  • Support MEAL Specialist on field monitoring and evaluation activities in ensuring that project MEAL systems comply with agency standards and donor specifications.
  • Proactively identify issues and challenges and report them to inform adjustments to plans and implementation schedules. Document lessons learned and success stories.

Scope: Supervises volunteers who facilitate the formation and development of SILC groups at the community level

  • Internal:     Agric Program Manager, Senior Agric. Program Officer, ATT Project Coordinator and Finance Manager
  • External:      IFDC/ATT Project, Department of Agriculture and other partners

Travel Required (include percentage of required travel, if applicable) 60% travel required

Required Skills or Experience

Typical Background, Experience & Requirements:
Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agronomy, or other related field required.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of work experience in project support. Experience in Savings and Internal Lending Communities (SILC) or Village Savings and Loans (VSLA) methodology for an NGO would be is required.
  • Experience in participatory action planning and community engagement.
  • Experience with activity monitoring and data collection preferred.
  • Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Personal Skills:

  • Observation, active listening and analysis skills with ability to make sound judgment.
  • Good relationship management skills and the ability to work closely with diverse groups including local partners and community members.
  • Attention to details, accuracy and timeliness in executing assigned responsibilities.
  • Proactive, results-oriented and service-oriented.
  • Proficiency in local languages of target districts in the northern region of Ghana.
