Job Description

• Monitor the mining contractors’ performance to ensure they are meeting their contractual obligations, achieving designed schedules and plans.
• Champion the preparation of end of month’s accruals and prepare the necessary cost variation reports.
• Coordinate the preparation of Yearly Budget and Life of Mine (LOM) plan for all mining related activities.
• Assist the Technical Services Superintendent in the timely preparation of the monthly and related departmental reports.
• Monitor the mining of actual against design pits to ensure achievements of design slopes, toe and crest positions and ramp designs.
• Prepare other short term forecasts as required by the Mine Operations Manager.
• Assist in the carrying out of pit optimisations and complete associated pit and dump designs in accordance with agreed parameters.
• Use pit design, knowledge of mineral models and production constraints to generate a short-term, mid-term and long-term plans that accurately predicts mining process
• Assist in the preparation of detailed and realistic schedules for the mine and all mining related projects in a timely manner.
• Ensure that the technical support required to achieve optimum productivity for the operations is available either in house or through external consultants.
• Review mine plans and schedules and make recommendations on the integration of those plans with the long term project plans
• Evaluate alternative designs and mine plans based on various operational scenarios with the goal of maximizing productivity and revenue
• Prepare and Review resource/reserve estimations and technical report
• Champion the departments’ cost control and cost saving initiatives.
• Develop accurate mineral model(s) for use in planning and reserve/resource calculations

Required Skills or Experience

• BSc. Mining Engineering from an accredited institution
• Six (6) years’ experience in Mine planning of which 3 years must be in open pit mining planning
• Advanced working knowledge in long term mine planning
• Advanced working knowledge and use of mine planning software such as SURPAC, MINESHED or WHITTLE.
• Strong organisation, planning, negotiation, problem solving and analytical skills
• A proven successful track record of leading teams and managing people
• Must possess at least Mine Captain Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission
