Job Description

  • Job title: Medical & Scientific Affairs Manager
  • Location: West Africa

 

Purpose
To support the marketing and sales efforts of the company and its distributors by providing leadership in the promotion of the clinical values of the company’s solutions by means of educational and scientific support in the form of preparation of training, educational and promotional material, organization and participation in scientific symposia and workshops.

DIVISION/DEPARTMENT: Application & Scientific Support

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up, lead and manage rice and oil consumer packaging and distribution 
  • Ability to translate clinical issues into practical marketable concepts and products
  • Confident and credible execution of the following leadership competencies: integrity, performance driven, sense of urgency, attention to detail, strategic thinking, collaborative, flexible, credible
  • Political awareness and sensitivity
  • Ability to influence, innovate and lead change through strategic planning, practice and consultation

  • Close collaboration with the different levels of stakeholders, having the ability to share best practices and information with colleagues for collective success
  • Excellent presentation skills, including effective listening, writing, verbal and formal presentation

Required Skills or Experience

  • To be determined (Preferably Accra but other locations within WCA territory will be considered depending on ease of travel from that city within the region)
  • EDUCATION MBCHB preferably with a post graduate qualification in haematology /lab medicine
  • EXPERIENCE 2 years post qualification within an appropriate laboratory setting.
  • Must be fluent in both English and French.

Scientific and educational Leadership
INPUT (Methods Used):

  • SEED Newsletter
  • Assist SSA Medical & Scientific Affairs manager in identifying relevant topics and writing clinician and lab focused educational newsletters on topics and time frames as agreed.
  • Conduct literature searches and critically appraise scientific publications as required
  • Assist in drafting research protocols and conduct applied research as required
  • Symposia and customer events
  • Primary care-taker of scientific events in WCA territory. Play a pivotal role in planning, providing symposiums, guest speakers and hosting of KOLs
  • Provide guidance to territory managers regarding event planning in line with key Sysmex sales objectives and country specific strategies
  • Deliver talks
  • Source independent external speakers as required
  • Build relationships with end-users and key opinion leaders
  • Work closely with Medical & Scientific Affairs manager SSA in order to:
  • Prepare focused positioning strategies on major African Diseases – from a clinical and diagnostic perspective & translate these into marketing messages for sales people
  • Enhance core business positioning and illustrate ways to grow core business through the use of unique and diverse concepts utilizing the clinical utility of the haematology analysers as well as the value of automated urinalysis.
  • Create awareness of the clinical relevance of coagulation testing in Africa amongst decision makers
  • Targeted development of the coagulation knowledge base of Sysmex sales staff and distributors in countries with the most potential to succeed.

New Business Development

INPUT

  • Conduct market research to evaluate potential for Sysmex to enter into new diagnostic fields or develop new applications, especially relating to diseases that are prominent in Africa (HIV, TB & Malaria)
  • Engage with KOLS in the relevant diagnostic field to conduct new product evaluations and evaluate market potential
  • Participate in strategic project teams within the Sysmex organisation as needed.
  • Support field evaluations as needed
  • Identify and lead local project teams as needed
  • Write reports as needed
  • Support the development of the Sysmex- Partec flow cytometry business roll-out as and when required
  • Be conversant in immunophenotyping concepts
  • Lead discussions with KOLs as required
  • Support the sales team with scientific and clinical “know-how”
