Job Description

CHIEF ACCOUNTANT

Location: Accra

Category: Finance/Accounting

Our client, a telecommunications company operating in Ghana is looking to hire a Chief Accountant for their operations here in Accra.

ROLE PROFILE

Manage all the Financial Entries and transactions including the closing of the books, general ledger updates and review the reporting of monthly revenue activities associated with the business.

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly and year end close
  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
  • Assist the Controller in the daily requirements.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of positive pay transactions.
  • Ensure the monthly and quarterly Bank Compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Support budget and forecasting activities.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures with emphasis on internal controls
  • Ensure Risk Management procedures bases on the Group Corporate Governance and Risk Management policies
  • Collaborate with the other department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Supervise the general ledger group to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
  • Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
  • Support Cost Analyst with special projects and work flow process improvements.

Required Skills or Experience

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting and Finance, Business administration or similar.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in related field
  • Must have experience in Visual Dolphin & Microsoft Dynamics NAV
  • Professional membership in accounting/finance will be an added advantage

REQUIRMENTS

  • Good Command of English -Written and Spoken
  • Must be trustworthy and ethical – High level of Integrity
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
  • Adequate Knowledge in Financial Statements and Processesa
  • Adequate Knowledge in Financial Analysis
  • Adequate Knowledge in Labor Law and Financial Regulations and Legislation
  • Adequate Knowledge in Development and Implementation of Business Plans
  • Adequate Knowledge in Budgetary Planning
  • Adequate Knowledge in Developing Short and Long-term Financial Strategies
  • Adequate Knowledge in IFRS.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Key Performance Indicators

Monthly:

  • Insure complete all Banks and Customers reconciliations before the beginning of the next month
  • Achieve 100% accuracy in Costing
  • Create and Implement one reporting initiatives that will improve the operations of the department
  • Perform all daily accounting vouchers according to the approved chart of accounts and implemented accounting policies.
  • Pass all daily vouchers prepared to the financial manager for review and approval
  • Assist in the preparation of reports as required (as bank reconciliation, expenses sheets) and pass them to the Finance manager

Quarterly:

  • Assist in the preparation of reports as required
  • Prepare documentation for the expense reports
  • Prepare the Tax report

Annually:

  • Assist in the preparation of reports as required
  • Assist in the circulation of reports as required
