Job Description

Central University, a Chartered Christian University invites applications from suitably qualified persons interested in assuming an exciting leadership opportunity as Chief financial Officer.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Chief financial Officer (CFO) is directly responsible to the Vice Chancellor.

JOB STATEMENT: The Chief Financial Officer advises the Vice Chancellor on all matters pertaining to the management and operations of financial and accounting systems. 
 
JOB SUMMARY: The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the administration of all financial operations of the university including:

  • Contribution to the development and review of University's strategic plan
  • The development of budgets and financial strategy derived from the University's strategic plan
  • Metries tied to that strategy and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve university assets
  • Report accurate financial results, monitoring adherence to the budget and development of long term financial and operational strategies.
  • Management of the treasury and preserving financial stability.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Seasoned financial manager with a minimum of Master's Degree in a related field. Possession Of professional certifications (Certified Public Accountant and /or Certified Management Accountant ICA, ACCA, CIMA) would be required. 

Experience: 

  • A minimum of ten (10) years progressively responsible senior management financial and administrative experience in a large and complex organisation is required. Experience in a multi-campus university, system would be helpful. 
  • Behaviors: The Chief financial Officer will exhlibit qualities of emotional maturity, genuineness, self-confidence, commonsense, judgment, fairness, creativity, discretion, decisiveness, diplomacy, tact, resilience, adaptability, courage of convictions and tolerance of ambiguity. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of methods of allocating scarce resources and the attendant revenue enhancing models, strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various constituencies of the university. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Required: 

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and skill and expertise in financial and service management 
  • Demonstrated ability to be an active participant in planning and Policy decision making of the campus; 
  • Knowledge of large organisation stability to establish good working relations with faculty, staff; students, alumini and other university groups
  • Familiarity with or ability to acquire familiarity with the rules, regulations,policies and laws governing receipt, expenditure and other management activities of the University's endowment an other funds; and
  • Familiarity with or ability to integrate current technology and best practices into all of the functional areas of the finance activities;
  • Sound ethical standards
