Job Description

The Position
The Accountant, reporting to Local Manager and Head office in Canada, is accountable for a variety of accounting and financial reporting tasks.  There will be change in the nature and scope of the job duties as the Company grows and the Accountant will be expected to have a range of skills and a willingness to learn.
 
Specific Accountabilities
  • Perform full-cycle accounting functions for operation in Ghana
  • Preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Preparation of supporting reconciliations and schedules in order to support the financial statements.  This includes the maintenance of various reports (i.e. bank reconciliations, sales reports, inventory, AR and AP reports, Intercompany transactions, etc.)
  • Maintain general and sub-ledgers on a timely basis
  • Preparation of weekly/monthly expense report for submission to HQ in Canada
  • Prepare SSF (TIER 1 / 2) returns, prepare and submit SSNIT/PAYE, prepare VAT for filing at GRA monthly
  • Review and verify cash disbursement from petty cash, Prepare cash and bank report monthly
  • Assist with other miscellaneous reporting requirements such as GRA, GIPC, etc.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of various budgets and excel reports as required
  • Manager AR collection from customers
  • Maintain ALL supporting documents for internal audit by HQ or external audit
  • Implement and maintain local accounting software
  • Assist with implementation of internal control
  • Assist with quarter/year-end internal/external audit procedures
  • Other ad-hoc reports as required

Required Skills or Experience

  • Completion of an accounting diploma or degree
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in full cycle accounting
  • Prior experience with using a mid-tier ERP is required.
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial systems and processes
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Excellent communication skills and Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlights
  • Detail oriented self-starter and ability to learn, Ability to work within a team and independently
Preferences: Accounting software or ERP implementation experience
Compensation : Depending on the experience
