Job Description

Duration: 6 months to 12 months

 

Role overview 

  • The main purpose of this placement is to design and deliver programs which could enable the capacity of partner and primary actors respond to emergency situations. The project aimed at improving the resilience capacity of pastoralist community in the project location through different innovative interventions.
  • The Project also deals with building the capacity of the education cluster to respond as per the Country Humanitarian and Disaster Resilience Plan (HDRP) so as to ensure the inclusion of Out of School Children (OOSC) in conflict and drought affected locations of the country.
  • Besides, the project is expected to design and deliver short term teacher training in selected locations of the region on psychosocial skills and Child friendly methodology for teachers from crisis affected areas; empowering teachers and education officers so that they can provide better support to children under the conflict situation to stay in school and achieve better in their education.
Responsibilities
The responsibility of the volunteer is to work with the country team in developing programs focused on education in emergencies, design different tailored trainings for education officers, planners and supervisors and school teachers. Develop alternative strategies for inclusion of marginalized and out of school children in the education system. Coordinate the overall project activities, engage and lead assessment, monitoring and evaluation of the project. 
 
Specifically, the volunteer 
  • Asses and identify needs in relation to EiE intervention within affected regions and other VSO project areas;
  • Lead different assessments for the national education cluster and coordinate capacity building initiatives together with government and other partners;
  • Actively engage in developing  quality programing techniques;
  • Prepare training manuals and guidelines for trainings as per the needs of the partner and in line with the standards of INEiE 
  • Support regional education bureau and the Ministry of Education in designing, implementing and monitoring of education projects targeted internally displaced and drought affected children;
  • Ensure the inclusion of marginalized and disadvantaged community members accessing basic services;    
  • Together with partner organization supervise  projects and activities at grass root level 
  • Plan and coordinate trainings on psychosocial care and support, back to school campaign, resilience and peace building and accountability for targets;   
  • Prepare/compile reports and case stories about the project ; 
  • Conduct pre and post project assessment and evaluations; 

Due to the nature of our volunteer placements, it is possible that the responsibilities of this role may differ in reality and therefore the post holder will need to be prepared to be flexible and adapt to their environment as necessary.

Key Performance Indicators 
(This is needed for reviews and performance management as volunteers will now be assessed and monitored against objectives. These should be in conjunction with the programme Monitoring and Evaluation plan. The notes at the bottom of this column should be visible in all volunteer job descriptions.) 
 
The following are the proposed performance objectives:
  • Regional EiE Road map delivered  
  • Training materials developed 
  • Quality program designed 
Objectives will be confirmed in a three way discussion between the volunteer, employer and VSO in the first three months of the placement.

Required Skills or Experience

  • A recognized Qualification in education in education in emergencies, educational planning and management, with grounded experience in project management, design, teacher training and materials development preferably masters level.
  • Demonstrated  experience in education at primary level;
  • Proven experience in teacher training; 
  • Proven knowledge and experience in projects related to DRR, child-centred and active learning methodologies, 
  • Practical understanding of children and teachers’ needs in areas of basic education 
  • Evidenced  skills experiences  and qualification in psychosocial skill and child friendly methods;
