Job Description

A reputable construction company seeks the services of a highly qualified and experienced Purchasing and Supply Officer to oversee the procurement and supply of its building materials. 
 
Responsibilities
  • Conduct procurement negotiations and ensure continuous savings for the company
  • Maintain complete updated purchasing records/data in the company
  • Co-ordinate with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of materials and service
  • Prepare and process purchase orders and other documents .
  • Leads and develops a network of both internal and external partners to gather and analyze market information and trends
  • Participate in the formulation of the procurement policy and its implementation

Duties

  • Discover the most profitable suppliers and initiate business partnerships
  • Negotiate with external vendors to secure the most advantageous terms
  • Approve the ordering of necessary goods and services
  • Finalize details of orders and deliveries
  • Examine and re-evaluate existing contracts
  • Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
  • Collaborate with key persons to ensure the clarity of the specifications and expectations of the company
  • Foresee alterations in the comparative negotiating ability of suppliers and clients
  • Anticipate unfavorable events through analysis of data and prepare control strategies
  • Perform risk management regarding supply contracts and agreements
  • Control, spend and build a culture of long-term saving on procurement costs

Required Skills or Experience

Requirement & Experience
  • Proven working experience as a procurement officer in the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of sourcing and procurement techniques as well as a dexterity in “reading” the market
  • Talent in negotiations and networking
  • Aptitude in decision-making and working with numbers
  • Experience in collecting and analyzing data
  • Strong leadership capabilities
  • Good knowledge of concepts and principles and approaches to procurement systems;

Qualifications

  • Applicants must hold a good first Degree in Purchasing and Supply - (Minimum, Second Class Lower) and a member in good standing of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Procurement (MCIP) will be an added advantage.
  • Must have at least six (6) years post qualification experience in Stores, Materials or Procurement management in construction or related field.
  • An impressive record in Purchasing and Supply
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must have a valid driving license
  • Has in-depth knowledge of the construction industry and knows the strengths and weaknesses of suppliers
