We are looking for a passionate Swim Instructor who enjoys working with young children. We will provide in-house training, so although experience teaching swimming is preferred, it is not required. You will however be required to have Lifeguard certification from a recognized body to be considered.

SCOPE OF WORK

• The Swim Instructor is expected to demonstrate the highest level of ethics at all times. He/she is responsible for teaching swimming using the SSI Swim Program protocol. 
• Reports to: Swim Director
• Working Hours: 40 hours weekly on rota. A termly roster will be provided. This may be subject to change.

Essential Requirements

• Ensure efficient and effective swim instruction using the SSI Swim Lesson program. This includes providing a safe and fun experience for all swimmers (private/group) of varied ages.
• The instructor is responsible for the safety of swimmers during lessons.
• Begin and end all classes on time; He/she must remain after class to update parents/caregivers on each swimmer’s progress.
• Must submit completed student report cards, evaluation/skills sheets and attendance information after each class.
• Enforce safety rules to prevent injury and be able to administer basic first aid. The instructor must immediately and appropriately secure the safety of guests in the event of emergency.
• Immediately report suspicious/inappropriate behaviours or suspected abuse relating to children.
• Attends mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduled and required.
• Provides assistance to the Swim Director in managing the day-to-day operations of Cheeky Monkey Club’s swim school. Instructors are also required to work together with the Club Manager to schedule lessons before each swim term and at any other time so required.
• Contributes to business development and the retention of existing club members. Placing the needs of members should be key priority at all times.
• Operates the pool and surrounding areas in accordance with regulatory provisions and arrange for immediate corrections if any violations are found. Ensure all pool safety equipment are in good working condition. The pool must be covered and secured at all times with the provided pool safety net except during maintenance, lessons or free swim after which it must immediately be covered again. The rule is simple, if the pool is empty, it must be covered and secured!
• Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of customer service.
• The instructor is responsible for lifeguarding and maintenance of the swimming pool outside of swim lessons. He/she must always ensure a safe, clean and organized pool area.
• Pool Party Captain – As an instructor you may occasionally be required to play games and supervise free swim or lifeguard during birthday parties or any other events as required.
• All other duties as assigned and appropriate.

Required Skills or Experience

• SSI Swim Program – Thorough knowledge of the SSI Swim Program and adherence to its standards and requirements at all times. Cheeky Monkey will provide training, followed by a practical and written examination before certification.
• Customer Service – must meet quality service standards at all times.
• Safety – Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and health & safety regulations related to the swimming pool and other work-related precautions especially around young children.
• Class Management System – Instructor must complete 60minutes training of our Management System. The system is the lifeline to our business and thorough knowledge is required.

Education & Experience

• Secondary School Diploma/Certificate and Lifeguard Certification by a recognised body. Minimum One Year in specialized pool operations, instruction, supervision and lifeguarding. Current Certifications must be maintained throughout the contract period. Instructor is expected to complete SSI Swim Teacher certification in order to teach lessons at the club.

Required Skills

• Swimming & Teaching Skills – Must exhibit enthusiasm and ability to teach young children swim lessons. Ability to swim the major strokes of Front Crawl, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly. Ability to demonstrate skills as required for class content and use teaching aids such as kickboards, diving rings, lifejackets, etc.
• Health & Safety - Possession of current and valid CPR, First Aid and Personal Safety Certificate issued by a recognized body.
• Computer Skills – Utilizes a computer/tablet and related software to complete a variety of administrative tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy.
• Interpersonal Relationships – Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships with guests and work colleagues at all levels.
• Judgment/Decision Making – Exercises appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and resolving matters.
• Team Work - Demonstrates excellent team work skills as well as the ability to work alone and unsupervised.
• Cross-Selling Skills – Ability to sell and cross-sell all club products and services to existing guests as well as potential guests.

Required Abilities

• Communication – Ability to communicate effectively so others will understand.
• Ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.

Additional Requirements

• An acceptable Character and Guarantor Reference. This position additionally requires Pre-Employment Medical Evaluation including Police Checks.
• Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work in a warm, humid environment. Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight.
• Sensory Requirements: Swimming pools pose a high risk. Instructors must be alert and environmentally/globally aware of their surroundings at all times. Most tasks require the ability to perceive sounds, visual cues or signals whilst most tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
• Environmental Exposures:  Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as, humidity, temperature extremes, traffic hazards, infectious disease, and/or rude/irate customers.
