Job Description

• Prepare flux composition for different sample types especially sulphide and samples with high arsenic.
• Perform knocking, cupellation and prill digestion.
• Perform bullion assay as per the approved standard.
• Assist Assay Lab Chemist in; AAS analysis, weighing, cyanide bottle roll leaching, filtration, homogenizing, aqua regia digestion, and carbon in gold analysis, calcium in carbon analysis, gold in solution preparation, prill digestion, washing etc.  
• Perform digestion/dilutions of soil samples or fire assay prills.
• Operate, adjusts, and maintain analytical instruments, including but not limited to balances, atomic absorption spectroscopy etc.
• Carry out chemical analysis on a variety of samples including natural and waste waters at the direction of the Laboratory Chemist.
• Enter laboratory results into analytical data sheet.
• Prepare chemical reagents and standards according to formulae.
• And any other related duties assigned by your Supervisor.

Required Skills or Experience

• Diploma (Metallurgical/Chemical Engineering) with five (5) years hands on experience in operation, supervision of a fire assay and bullion assay set up or GCE O Level/SHS/WASSCE certificate with at least ten(10) years’ hands on experience in a similar role 
• Experience in Wet Lab and BLEG operations is essential
• A certificate in basic firefighting and first aid would be an added advantage
• Experience in Laboratory Reporting
• Knowledge of Assay Lab QAQC
• Must be knowledgeable in lab sampling program
• Must be knowledgeable in computer applications especially Microsoft Excel, word and power point
• Ability to make mathematical computations especially with calculations of molar mass, concentrations of compounds.
• Knowledge of solution preparation and standardization.
• ​Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
• Reliable and high attention to details
• A team player and have the ability to lead teams and work under intense pressure
