Discovery Learning Alliance (DLA) is a US-based non-profit organisation using the power of media to improve student learning outcomes, teacher effectiveness and community engagement in schools in the developing world. This is the focus of Discovery Girls. with DFID and Discovery Communications support, the project will reach hundreds of schools and communities across Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria over the next 2-3 years. DLA is inviting applications for the two senior-most positions of the project team, to be based in Tamale - the overall Project Manager and the Training & Outreach Manager. In the near future, we will be advertising for additional positions responsible for teacher training and community outreach.

Job Description

In many countries, children continue to face barriers to accessing and achieving a quality basic education.  Many of these children will further struggle to successfully transition from one grade to the next, and from Primary School to Junior Secondary School and beyond.  The Cell-Ed /Discovery Learning Alliance (DLA) GEC-T project will address these challenges by reaching hundreds of schools and communities and integrating Cell-Ed’s mobile first technology service with DLA’s educational programs across Ghana. 
 
Reporting to the designated DLA manager in Ghana and working with the Cell-Ed team, the Tech Support Assistant will be responsible for providing technical and administrative support to teachers/staff to ensure seamless integration of project implementation at the country level. Tech Support Assistant will serve as a liaison between necessary project partners and will be supported by DLA in country and Cell-Ed at HQ, who will provide technical leadership and support. The position will require significant local travel to project sites. 
 
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate in English with all levels of the organization. Must have education and work experience in technology. Extensive experience using smartphones and basic feature phones. Must be able to navigate through the available Cell-Ed applications and have good knowledge of using Excel. Must be responsive to teachers, provide support, and relay information to the Cell-Ed team. Tech Support Assistant should be able to research on-ground technical solutions if needed. Will be required to pass background check.
 
Main Responsibilities
  1. Ensures timely and accurate completion of onboarding and technical assistance.
  2. Troubleshoot and provide technical support to Cell-Ed users (teachers and DLA staff). 
    • Troubleshooting involves technical guidance, coaching, and direction on Cell-Ed usage, as needed.
    • Troubleshooting includes researching and determining best tech practices on-ground to resolve any issues between Cell-Ed’s mobile solution and Telcos/intermediaries. 
  3. Test Cell-Ed platform and provide insights. 
    • Testing includes site visits and UI/UX observations, data collection, data entry, and providing feedback to all necessary project teams. 
  4. Serve as a liaison between teachers/DLA staff and Cell-Ed and report all aspects of progress, including any technical foresight and/or issues that may arise. 
    • This requires Tech Support Assistant to have fluency in English and local language. 
  5. Download analytical reports from Cell-Ed’s Learning Management System (LMS) for all affiliated schools to and provide technical support and or coaching as needed. 
    • Usage of LMS requires determining areas of improvement based on data and user feedback to increase user engagement and ease-of--use of technology solution.
  6. Other duties as assigned.
