Production manager needed for fruit processing company

Job Summary

Provides tactical planning and support to Leads and frontline workers. Contributes to and executes overall strategy of Plant Manager. Responsible for product quality, employee safety, and delivery. The successful person in this position will provide discipline and consistency while making small, incremental changes to drive results.

Essential Functions:

• Supervise production line operation in accordance with plant policies and procedures.
• Responsible for employee adherence to food safety policies and safety policies.
• Plan and improve production startups, shutdowns, and changeovers.
• Create employee work schedules and alter them as needed to respond to the plant schedule.
• Perform leader standard work which includes gathering, recording, and reporting of rate, labor, performance, and exceptions.
• Communicate expectations to employees regarding quality, safety, delivery, cost, attitude, and effort.
• Develop Standard Operating Procedures and Standard Operating Conditions.
• Ensure appropriate training is delivered to frontline employees.
• Contribute to employee development by scheduling, training, and coaching employees.
• Schedule, train, coach, and conduct performance reviews for frontline employees.
• Maintain records of all team members capabilities and opportunities.
• Provide timely praise and disciplinary action as necessary.
• Manage employee time and attendance system.
• Prevent, investigate, and document safety and food safety incidents.
• Conduct shift meetings and ensure performance metrics are delivered and explained to the team.
• Responsible for the cleanliness of the building and grounds associated with the Plant.
• Responsible for the timely submittal of work requests to the Maintenance Department.
• Work cross-functionally with Purchasing, Maintenance, Sanitation, Quality, Logistics, and Warehouse to ensure the supply chain is intact and orders are delivered on time and in full.
• Participate in pre-shift meetings and daily huddles.
• Lead in meetings with Plant Manager.
• Participate in meetings with Plant Manager and Director of Operations.
• Perform some duties of Production Lead in their absence.

Required Skills or Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree (BA) with three to five years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, and to create procedures.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited information exists.
• Ability to make and justify timely and appropriate decisions.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and some understanding of MRP.

Working Conditions/Physical Factors:

• Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. Temperatures below 20 degrees and above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
• Exposure to a loud working environment, hearing protection is mandatory.
• Exposure to hazards in the work place such as proximity to equipment conducting extreme heat, moving parts, and electrical current.
• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
• Occasionally required to use hands and fingers.
• Frequently required to talk or hear.
• Frequently required to taste and smell.
• Frequently required to lift/push/pull/carry weight up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required for this job include: close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
• Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
