Job Description

Our client, an international cement manufacturing company is looking to hire a competent and proactive TRANSPORT LOGISTICS OFFICER to help with their operations in Ghana.

Role Profile

The successful candidate will be responsible for finding independent drivers, registering new drivers and also negotiate delivery rate.He/She will be responsible for assessing and organising logistics in terms of transport requirements, receipt, handling storage and distribution of cement.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Find 3rd-party flatbed truck drivers to transport cement to distributors nationwide.
  • Manage database of drivers.
  • Negotiate delivery rates with 3rd-party drivers.
  • Manage loading order in line with commercial priorities.
  • Organize occasional driver trainings on safety.
  • Interface with logistics and commercial administration on loading paperwork and
  • Receive customer drivers and manage truck queues at our plant.
  • Ensure effective commodity management and quality control.
  • Ensuring health and safety standards are maintained and adhered to at all time.
  • Coordinate and track movement of drivers and cement through logistic pathways
  • Communicating effectively with clients and responding to their requirements.
  • Efficient scheduling of loads and in turn ensuring the profitability of all stakeholders
  • Use IT systems to manage stock levels, delivery times, transport costs, coordinate and control the order cycle and also evaluate performance, quality and to plan improvements.
  • Prioritizing tasks to meet expected shipping dates and maintaining an accurate inventory, establishes proper warehousing and recording systems including assets.
  • Carries out regular trips to ensure that cements forwarded to projects has been received and properly accounted for at their destinations.
  • Day to day building and management of a service driven and professional relationship with all key contacts at the client / warehouse / loading point / delivery point and subcontractors

KPIs

  • Total Bags delivered.
  • Time between order and weigh-in.
  • Driver satisfaction.
  • Active independent drivers count.
  • Undertakes other duties as required.

Required Skills or Experience

Education/ Experience

  • Degree in Business Administration, Transport Management, Supply Chain or other related fields.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role (logistics / transport operations).

Requirements

  • Understanding warehouse and inventory computer systems
  • Excellent knowledge with computers and warehouse equipment, strong technical and mechanical skills are helpful.
  • Excellent knowledge to create shipping / delivery routes and schedules
  • Very good with tracking shipment progress
  • Understanding safety / security processes and procedures
  • Demonstrates the ability to translate logistical plans into action and overcome obstacles.
  • Possess strong organizational, customer service and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognise the need to maintain accurate records and provide regular reports.
  • Demonstrates the ability to apply in practice own detailed knowledge of transport, storage and distribution systems / techniques and their capabilities and limitations, in order to make the most effective use of resources.
  • Must be detail-oriented team players with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
