Trias-Ghana is part of Trias worldwide, a Belgian agri-agency supporting farmers and entrepreneurial organizations in 14 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America and reaching about one million family farmers and small scale entrepreneurs through their membership organizations at the grassroots as well as at the regional and national levels.

Trias West Africa is operating in 3 countries; Guinea Conakry, Ghana and Burkina Faso. The regional office is based in Ouagadougou. The Guinea country office is located in Kindia. Currently, Trias West Africa is running 6 programmes, funded by the Belgian Government, the European Union and AGRA. 

Job Description

In a new project (Incubation to Entrepreneurship) being implemented in the Brong Ahafo region that is focusing on enterprise development with funding from the European Union, Trias is currently looking for a Project Officer. This project is executed in a consortium with other NGOs, private sector and MMDAs for a period of 40 months.

The overall objective of the project is "Increased income of 8,000 women and youth (at least 40% should be women) in the Tain and Techiman North districts and Kintampo Municipality of the Brong Ahafo region through the establishment of economically viable and environmentally sustainable micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Within the consortium, Trias is responsible for Leadership and Organisational Development of FBOs and VSLAs.

Position Description
The Project Officer will directly report to the Project Manager. He/she will be responsible for planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting on Leadership, Organizational Development, Inclusion and VSLA component of the project. The Project Officer will therefore work with other project implementing partners and stakeholders for the realisation of the project goal.

Specifically:

  • He / she will lead in the initiation of new VSLAs and strengthening of existing VSLAs
  • He / she will lead capacity building, monitoring and coaching of FBOs and VSLAs in Leadership, Organizational Development and Inclusion
  • He/she will work closely with the Organizational Development and Leadership Advisor to develop Leadership, Organizational Development and Inclusion training modules for training of FBOs, VSLAs and MSMEs
  • The Project Officer will work closely with the Organizational Development and Leadership Advisor and the Regional Program Coordinator of Trias in project planning, monitoring and evaluation and reporting
  • He/ she will identify, develop and maintain good relationship with collaborating partners such as government, NGOs and the private sector to ensure efficient and effective delivery of the Leadership, Organizational Development and Inclusion component of the project

Responsibilities 

  • Participate in the development of annual and quarterly plans of project activities
  • Mobilize beneficiaries as part of the implementation of activities
  • Support the capacity building of FBOs and VSLAs in Leadership, Organizational Development and Inclusion
  • Lead in the establishment and strengthening of VSLAs
  • Ensure and coordinate the implementation of project activities in the field
  • Participate in the production and dissemination of tools for the assessment, monitoring   and evaluation of project activities
  • Ensure the collection and quality of data needed to inform project performance
  • Participate in project meetings
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports of project activities
  • Contribute in a general manner to the management of the project and the functioning of the Kintampo office

Terms 

  • The position is based in the Brong Ahafo region and so the successful applicant should be willing to work there
  • Fixed-term contract of one year that is renewable
  • Salary and secondary conditions are competitive in line with standards in Ghana

Required Skills or Experience

  • A university degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Development studies or related disciplines
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in strengthening of farmer organizations and microfinance
  • Good Knowledge of Leadership, Inclusion and strengthening of farmer organizations and VSLAs
  • An experience in MSMEs, business incubation, value chain and enterprise development is an asset
  • Able to work in a team; be independent & proactive and meet deadlines
  • Good command of English language, knowledge of local language (Twi) is an added advantage
  • Good knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint software
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Good knowledge of the rural world and producer organizations in Ghana and more specifically in the Brong Ahafo region
