Job Description

The Role

Meridia is now looking for FIELD MAPPERS for our cocoa farm mapping activities in Ashanti, Western, Central, Eastern and Brong-Ahafo Regions of Ghana. The job consists of accurate GPS boundary point mapping and additional data collection from the cocoa farmer. You will be equipped with GPS hardware and Android tablets as well as other field gear. 

As Field Mapper, you will be working with an Area Manager in a team of 30 to 40 staff to systematically survey hundreds of cocoa farms each day. The work is thoroughgoing and requires a hardworking, committed and diligent attitude. We also need you to be comfortable and proficient with technology and fast with entering text on a tablet keyboard.

We are looking for people who are happy to work with cocoa farmers in the field, communicating professionally and precisely mapping their farm perimeter. We need you to be diligent and timely, present with the task at hand as well as a team player. Essentially your role is to make sure that the data we collect is of highest quality.

Field Mapper key activities

  • Walking the cocoa boundary with the farmer and tag each boundary point
  • Interview cocoa farmers with personal and farm-related questionnaires
  • Coordinate and manage the field work schedule
  • Sensitize and educate the farmer communities on the project and the benefits
  • Cross-checking information with the office data team
  • Communicating with the field team members and the Area Manager

Required Skills or Experience

  • Experience in field work and data collection
  • Good technology skills
  • Collaborative and solution oriented
  • Independent, self-motivating and able to deliver results
  • Strong with local languages, numerical input and maps
  • Excellent professional English
  • Ability to be focused and work diligently
  • Able to structure work independently
