Job Description

This position will provide Mud Engineering support to the drilling, work-over and completion projects in shallow and deep offshore.

Reports directly to the Drilling Superintendent

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Develop mud system design to drill the proposed deviated, extended reach and horizontal development wells and supervise the mud system management on the rig such that the wells are drilled safely and effectively.
• Mud engineering and mud system designs to allow safe and efficient drilling of the wells.
• Ensure that the mud system meets the environmental guidelines and statutory requirements.
• Ensure well stability and good gauge hole with minimum formation damage and drilling related skin etc.
• Preparation of drilling fluids related budget.
• Develop mud programs, rig mud tank and solids control system management and optimization.
• Real time monitoring of mud system and its performance, assist in hole cleaning efficiency, well performance monitoring including cavings and mud weight management, storage of adequate and appropriate mud chemicals on the rig and shore base etc.
• Management of waste disposal plans.
• Develop technical scope of work for drilling fluids for tender evaluation etc.
• Co-ordinate daily mud reports and cost estimates and to maintain data base.
• Ensure adequate planning by timely mobilizing or demobilizing materials, services or personnel to optimize cost
• Coordinating with rig site team to ensure timely and adequacy of materials and equipment for operations
• Extend training and technical support to direct reports
• Perform Contractors management, function including checking and approving of invoices (technically)
• Actively participate on the day to day operations and ensure that operations are carried out on the rigs as per the program and as required.
• Prepare end of well mud and solids control equipment reports including analysis of problems, recommendations etc.

Required Skills or Experience

Experience

• Minimum of 15 Years of Experience in the oil and gas industry with at least 8 years as Senior Mud Engineer with relevant experience.
• Extensive experience with Drilling and Workover rigs for all types of well construction activities
• Recent offshore experience (Jack-up or deep offshore rig) is required
• Must have worked in an Operator’s (oil company’s) environment. Experience with international oil companies will be added advantage.

Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry (Engineering and Science disciplines may be considered based on experience)
• Offshore survival and HUET (BOSIET) certification

Skills

• Experience in all kinds of mud system environment for offshore usage, including but not limited to water based inhibitive mud systems, SOBM, OBM, completion brines.
• Experience on extended reach and horizontal wells.
• Understanding well complications, limitations in drilling parameters like ECD or mud weights, hole cleaning and cuttings bed issues etc.
• Strong verbal and written communication
• Understanding of all well construction project management starting from well engineering design, planning, preparation to the execution phase.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information and tight deadlines;
• Effective decision maker with the ability to apply and follow through on decisions and actions
• Effective coordination and interface with internal team and external contractors, and partners.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, ability to work with teams.
