Job Description

Clean Team is Ghana’s leading social enterprise for in-home, Container Based Sanitation (CBS) solutions. It is run by Ghanaians who provide solutions that help resolve Ghana’s current sanitation crisis. 60-70% of Ghanaians don’t have access to a clean, affordable toilet in their home. This has resulted in many residents resorting to open defecation in our communities. Clean Team’s exists to provide a solution to these problems by presenting an affordable, household toilet option for residents
in Kumasi. Clean Team Ghana is represented by a team of dedicated men and women who, are committed to improving Ghana’s current sanitation challenge.

Role Purpose

Clean Team Ghana is looking for an Innovations Officer who will be at the heart of improving Clean Team’s products and services and developing internal processes that facilitate Clean Team staff to contribute and take forward ideas. Key to the role will be the ability to unearth great ideas from diverse sources, test them, improve them and bring them to life in such a way that they tangibly improve the business. Where ideas do not work, ensuring that we have detailed understanding of why they have not worked that we can take into other projects, is crucial. He/She will come up with innovative solutions to recurring problems identified through constant evaluation and monitoring of customer suggestions/feedback.

Specific tasks and responsibilities includes, but not limited to the following:

  • Inspiration and best practice: You will be expected to be on the pulse of developments in the industry and technologies from other industries that could improve Clean Team. This will mean understanding best practice and scouting for novel ideas, insights and strategic innovation from a diversity of sources.
  •  Developing skills: This is about training CTG staff on the skills needed for sustainable innovation, and maintaining understanding as the organisation develops, to ensure everyone has the ability to put an idea forward.
  • Promoting an open innovation to identify new opportunities: Setting up and running ideas generation schemes and processes that encourage creative thinking across the business, with team members, key stakeholders and customers.
  • Experimentation: You will be the company expert on building lean pilots, ensuring rigorous analysis, interpreting results and improving processes, products and services.
  • Scaling successful pilots: You will lead the transition of successful pilots into business as usual, whether they be operational improvements or new service offerings.
  • Follow customer responses to new ideas: In conjunction with the customer service team, you will track and analyse the success of new products and services, responding to customer or team queries.

Required Skills or Experience

Skills and experience required to succeed in this role includes but not limited to the following:

  • Experience of improving customer service, launching new products or designing processes
  • Great people and communication skills – the ability to build strong working relationships with the range of CTG’s different stakeholders. Influencing will be an important part of this role
  •  Good project management skills to build and manage schedules, track initiatives, report results and hold colleagues accountable
  • Creativity and a willingness to constantly improve things around you. A curious mind and a desire to understand how things work and how they can improve is going to be crucial to success in this role
  • Strong analytical skills to investigate problems and find solutions in various types of data
  • Ability and interest to provide coaching to grow innovation capability across the entire organization
  • Ambition to help Clean Team launch world class products and services and the courage to think outside of the box
  • Desire to be part of a strong team,with the ability to be flexible with time and independently manage multiple priorities simultaneously. You will not be able to introduce any process, pilot any product or launch any service without the efforts of colleagues.
  • Numerate with an understanding of financial concepts including, but not limited to P&L, return on investment, customer acquisition cost, gross and net margin and lifetime value of a consumer
  • Desire to constantly be learning and developing oneself.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s in any subject is acceptable, although background in Marketing, Management,
Research and Development or Strategy are preferred. A PR postgraduate qualification is a plus
but not required.

Salary

This will depend on the skills and experience of the individual.
