Job Description

United States Pharmacopeia ( USP) is a scientific nonprofit organization that sets standards for the identity, strength, quality, and purity of medicines, food ingredients, and dietary supplements manufactured, distributed, and consumed worldwide. USP’s drug standards are enforceable in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration, and these standards are used in more than 140 countries.

USP Ghana serves as a collaborative testing Site for USP reference standards.

The site is looking for a young grauduate to assist in EHS activities. This is a short term contract which may be renewed depending on the incumbent's performance.

 

Summary of Role

The incumbent Technical support will assist to provide technical assistance in occupational safety, occupational health and environmental protection, the national law applicable, guidelines of the company, good practices and monitoring of EHS activities in Ghana site; The individual will be evaluating the environment, equipment and processes in workplace to ensure compliance with government safety regulations and industry standards.

Also, the incumbent will provide support in microbiology laboratory operations including medical devices and clinical diagnostics testing and assist in related training and/or technical assistance programs.

Working scope includes:

The incumbent will assist in the following areas

  • Ensure compliance of facility to all environmental, safety and health statutory requirements
  • Preparation of material and facilitation of trainings related to local regulations and best practices; personal/ sanitary hygiene; environmental education;
  • Preparation of mandatory reports (EPA Report, and others mandatory by Ghana regulations);
  • Annual review of applicable legislation related to occupational safety, occupational health and Environment, informing USP about changes in them and giving the necessary support to the adjustments (creation of an action plan, if necessary);
  • Assist in the development of yearly schedule of activities and trainings,
  • Ensure global EHS SOPs are followed appropriately
  • Develop SDS for new reagents and ensure appropriate revision of these SDS;
  • Chemicals Inventory revision, including respective SDS’s;
  • Perform investigations in case of accidents or near-misses;
  • Inspect working conditions at least once a year, to make sure that there are no practices that might cause any safety or health risks to the staff;
  • Accompany inspections and audits conducted by public or private organizations including QMS Audit;
  • To provide support for licenses acquisition and renovation (Fire Service, EPA); Certificates for waste Handling
  • Noise and lightning conditions monitoring;
  • Support in the process to manage controlled substances regulated by Ghana FDA, NACOB and Ghana EPA;
  • Quarterly meetings with the Emergency Response Team (Fire Service);
  • Support to perform quarterly inspections in the fire prevention equipment;
  • Quarterly Housekeeping Inspections;
  • Performs environmental monitoring and trend data appropriately

Required Skills or Experience

  • The individual consultant should possess a minimum of 2 years working experience.
  • Have knowledge of regulatory compliance laws for the general industry including Pharmaceutical Testing.
  • Have knowledge of compliance audits and EHS management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and client specific programs)
