Job Description Terms of Reference for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Specialist (GEWE)
Project Background
WEE-NORTH is a five-year $8.45 million project funded Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and implemented by Alinea International in Northern Ghana. The project will be implemented from February 28, 2020 to March 31, 2025 and is estimated to reach 4,800 women industrial trades trainees and entrepreneurs.
It aims to enhance the economic empowerment, well-being and inclusive growth for women and young women in five regions of northern Ghana by providing practical opportunities to industrial trades training and entrepreneurship skills building in order to participate in industrial trades that are essential growth sectors for the northern economy. The project will partner with 9 TVETs (3 technical universities, 6 TVETs) located in five northern regions to offer industrial trades training opportunities to women and young women.
The project’s ultimate outcome is to contribute to enhanced economic empowerment, well-being, and inclusive growth for women in Ghana.
This will be accomplished through the achievement of three intermediate outcomes:
Purpose of the Position
The role of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Specialist (GEWE) is to implement the gender equality strategy and activities to achieve the desired outputs and outcomes of the project.
Scope of Work
The Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Specialist position will involve working in a self-directed manner, as well as part of a team including Ghanaians and Canadians within a participatory and iterative project framework. Reporting to the Field Manager and under the technical direction of the Project Director/International Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Advisor, the GEWE Specialist coordinates and delivers programming activities and technical support to stakeholders and project staff to achieve project results. This position will work across all project processes and results streams supporting implementation of the gender equality and women’s empowerment strategy. The GEWE will be required to travel to projects sites within northern Ghana and on occasion to Accra on behalf of the project.
