Job Description

Key Responsibilities: Farm Manager

  • Management of financial budgets, cost statements and profitability.
  • Analyze and interpret historical data to ensure practical and timely operational decisions are made.
  • Manage all crop related activities at DKCL. The Farm Manager will: Maintain soil nutrient inventories and prescriptions via field sampling. Plant, manage and harvest commodity production fields. Aid research investigators in planting, managing, and harvesting research plot projects as instructed. Requisition and apply fertilizer per prescriptions for commodity production fields, and in research fields via other specific protocols as instructed by research investigators. Requisition and apply farm chemicals per determined need for commodity production fields, and in research fields via other specific protocols as instructed by research investigators.
  • Oversee a team to produce the highest quality raw product for long term storage.
  • Identify/implement crop management practices to enhance quality of production.
  • Evaluate current and new production practices.
  • Scale all operations of the business to ensure the proper utilization of capital/human resources.
  • Adapt and implement new Agricultural Technologies into the operation.
  • Oversee the successful completion of Annual Food Safety audits.
  • Provide long term strategy for growth of the operation.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Agriculture and/or Business.
  • 3-5 Years of relevant experience.
  • Experience preparing and managing budgets.
  • People management experience.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours is required.

  • Centre Pivot Irrigation.
  • Land Development.
  • Sustainable fertility management.
  • Full understanding of agronomic factors utilized for a sustainable operation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with a strong focus on program improvement.
  • Negotiation and business skills including the ability deal with landowners and vendors.
