Job Description

  • Participate in the development of strategy/business plan for the Finance Department and implement same.
  • Participate in the development of policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work plan and other support systems including monitoring mechanisms in managing the Finance Department. Financial Accounting
  • Responsible for the administration of the Company’s General Ledger and monitor all system accounts (General Ledger, Debtors and Creditors accounts, etc.) to ensure accurate balances.
  • Responsible for the effective maintenance/update of accounting Journals and Cash Book.
  • Monitor and investigate any unusual balances in the General Ledger/Cash book for prompt resolutions.
  • Implement and maintain effective accounts payable/receivable systems for the Company and monitor to ensure that all payments made are in line with approved accounting polices/guidelines.
  • Review and certify invoices, claims, advances, wages, salaries, etc. to ensure consistency with laid down policies/guidelines and approve payments within prescribed limits of authority.
  • Responsible for the preparation and filing of statutory returns and deductions (i.e. tax, SSNIT, etc.).
  • Supervise the preparation of periodic bank reconciliation statements.
  • Coordinate and supervise the preparation of monthly reconciliation of accounts. Management Accounting
  • Conduct financial modelling and analysis to support the development of long term strategic initiatives and business plans.
  • Monitor to ensure that all budget inputs from various Departments are completed and submitted within agreed time frame and in line with approved formats/templates.
  • Implement approved systems and procedures for analyzing budgetary performance to aid in the monitoring and control of approved budget.
  • Participate in the preparation of the annual operating budget for the Company and implement same.
  • Prepare variance analysis of revenue and expenditure against budget and report on any deviations for corrective action.
  • Collate data/information from all Departments and participate in the preparation of Business Performance Report on monthly basis.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and update of the Fixed Assets Register of the Company.
  • Monitor to ensure the security/protection of the Company’s Fixed Assets.
  • Implement the Company’s payroll system and monitor to ensure that all payroll transactions are in line with approved guidelines. Stakeholder Relations & Management
  • Maintain professional relationships with External Auditors, Regulatory Agencies, Financial Institutions and other external stakeholders in the area of financial management. Information & Reporting
  • Stay abreast with legislations, rules, regulations and international best practices in Financial Management to facilitate and enhance the business operation of the Department.
  • Responsible for the implementation of records on financial and non-financial data to facilitate qualitative and quantitative analysis of the finance function.
  • Prepare monthly and periodic reports relating to job function. Employee Performance & Development • Conduct performance appraisal and provide input for career development and recommend performance incentives for subordinate staff.
  • Identify training needs and facilitate training for subordinate staff.

  • Masters’ Degree or equivalent professional qualification in Accounting, Finance or related field. Experience
  • Five (5) years relevant working experience with at least 2 years in senior officer position. Knowledge & Skills
  • In-depth knowledge in the use of accounting methodologies and tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of Accounting Standards and related regulations.
  • Good planning and organising skills.
  • Good knowledge of the International Financial Reporting System (IFRS), Accounting and Auditing Standards and related regulations.
  • Good financial knowledge, including treasury management, investment planning, asset allocation, etc. • High ability in financial modelling and analysis.
  • Excellent analytical ability and problem-solving skills.
  • Negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders and work effectively with all categories of employees.
  • Good knowledge of project management.
  • Good knowledge in the use of accounting/financial software and tools, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet etc.
  • Good supervisory, coaching and interpersonal skills in a "team" setting.
