The INVEST Project
The Innovation in Non-Traditional Vocational Education and Skills Training (INVEST) is a 5 year initiative that will build sustainable pathways to enhanced economic empowerment, well-being and inclusive growth for 5,000 urban poor young women in Accra, Kumasi, and Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana. Working in high growth sectors, the initiative will test and scale innovative, sustainable models to improve the enabling environment, reduce gender-specific barriers to women’s economic participation, and enhance access to decent work for marginalized women in non-traditional sectors.
 
Nature and Scope
The Project Officer is responsible for supporting the INVEST project with technical, programmatic, and administrative assistance. The Project Officer serves as the project’s consistent link to Takoradi activities, and provides the day-to-day problem solving, technical input, writing and editing, and coordination that the Takoradi field activities require. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in international development and enjoy supporting local development actors to lead change. The candidate should also possess key issue area expertise in at least one of the following: TVET, gender, education, entrepreneurship, or business development services.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain existing partnerships and grow the organization’s network of private sector partners;
  • Maintain strong relationships with project partners (especially those implementing activities within Sekondi-Takoradi), providing technical assistance, appreciative coaching, listening and empathy throughout implementation;
  • In collaboration with the MERL Advisor, support data quality control for project management database and systems;
  • Collect project immediate outcome and output data and prepare for use in promotional materials, publications, events, and other reports;
  • Routinely interface with INVEST advisory and operations teams to ensure strong internal and external coordination on training and outreach activities in the field;
  • Support project and organization-wide activities, events, and campaigns actively and as needed;
  • Undertake a range of administrative duties and tasks that may reflect substantial variety and complexity;
  • Support to plan, design and deliver project activities.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration or a relevant field is required;
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in the development sector, including experience working alongside and championing local development actors;
  • Candidates should possess excellent analytical skills, strong writing skills, excellent time management and interpersonal skills, and be dedicated to promoting global grassroots development;
  • Ability to work effectively in an inter-cultural, diverse and complex work environment;
  • Ability to work as part of an international team in a participatory manner; Ability to communicate effectively in English language - both written and orally; Preference will be given to candidates residing in or near to Takoradi.
