  • Preferred Location: Accra, Ghana 
  • Work Status (Full Time/Part Time): Full Time
  • Travel requirements: This position will need to be flexible to work in local conditions and across different time zones. This position may require frequent travel (25-33%) in Ghana.

Job Summary & Key Priorities

Grameen Foundation is seeking an experienced leader in women’s economic empowerment (WEE), curriculum and training development, and training facilitation to support projects that aim to improve women’s digital financial inclusion and entrepreneurship, particularly among female mobile money agents in northern Ghana. The WEE Specialist key priorities will be:

  • Developing and facilitating tailored training content to support education and informational campaigns among female mobile money agents and women entrepreneurs in northern Ghana
  • Collaborating with Program Manager to train and support local partners and female mobile money agents in northern Ghana on gender-based violence, livelihoods, and other training needs as identified.
  • Supporting monitoring and evaluation activities to assess the impact of Grameen activities on female agents and their clients.
  • Identifying opportunities and supporting fundraising efforts for new WEE initiatives in Ghana and West Africa.

The position will primarily focus on building synergies between Grameen Foundation’s two main Solution Areas: a) financial services and b) women’s economic empowerment. The WEE Specialist will report to the Regional Manager, Africa who is based in Accra, Ghana.

Essential Job Functions

Mission & Business Results

This role is accountable for supporting delivery of our work related to digital financial services, particularly those delivered through female entrepreneurs who serve as mobile money agents.  Work involves partnering closely with Grameen’s Ghana team, such as the Regional Manager, Africa and Program Manager of Grameen’s Women Entrepreneurs in Northern Ghana Gain Access to Integrated services via Agent Networks (WE GAIN) project, which is one among several projects part of the Women and Girls Empowered (WAGE) program as well as Grameen’s Research Director and Senior Technical Advisor, Financial Services, both located in the United States.  The WEE Specialist is accountable for: 

  • Contributing to the development of content and training for the WE GAIN project through both in-person and digital means 
  • Utilizing Grameen and partners’ existing livelihoods, financial management, gender and other training manuals to curate key messages focused on WEE, business skills, financial services, GBV, and health for delivery to female mobile money agents and their customers in northern Ghana
  • Developing other training and messaging approaches to effectively reach mobile money agents, spouses, and female entrepreneurs served by the project and create an impact on their lives. 
  • Working with local and international partners to develop training content and deliver to mobile money agents and women entrepreneurs in northern Ghana.  
  • Monitoring training delivery and quality and supporting monitoring and evaluation activities associated with training and content delivery.

 Integration Results

  • Coordinating, reporting, tracking, and maintaining standard business processes relevant to their work. Examples include, but are not limited to, project management dashboards and financial reports, other partner/Grameen business processes. 
  • Leveraging existing automated solutions (internal GF tools or technologies, e.g., Box, Smartsheet, Salesforce) to drive efficiencies and process improvements.

Stakeholder Results

  • Supporting funding proposals for new projects where WEE, training, and local expertise are needed.
  • Representing their work area in related industry, trade or community events with support from their manager and other resources. 

Leadership Results

  • Supporting, capturing, sharing and creating lessons learned documentation for the WE GAIN project. 
  • Demonstrating the ability to establish productive partnerships across regional and cultural boundaries.

The WEE Specialist is expected to work a standard workweek of 40 hours plus additional hours as necessary to get the job done.

Required Skills or Experience

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A passion for solving the challenges facing poor, female entrepreneurs and corresponding products/solutions; combined with deep commitment to eradicating poverty.
  • Expertise in training and curriculum methodologies and training/meeting facilitation as well as women’s economic empowerment approaches (such as women’s entrepreneurship, business skills, financial services, or digital financial services)
  • Experience in gender, social norms research, gender-based violence a plus.
  • Experience in digital training and learning approaches and using social media for training and messaging a plus
  • Familiarity with the Upper East and Northern Ghana contexts.
  • Execution skills, and the ability to overcome and work around operational obstacles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - effectively working with and providing support to internal and external customers. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint) required.
  • Data Analysis and Process Management Skills - advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel required, knowledge of Process/Project Management Tools a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with Human-Centered Design principles and Monitoring & Evaluation Frameworks a strong plus.

Education Background and Experience

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business, International Development, Economics, Finance or related field.
  • Requires 5+ years of experience in curriculum and training services, women’s economic empowerment, economic strengthening, financial services, digital financial services, international development, or a related field.
  • Experience with remote teams preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in emerging markets, ideally in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Requires excellent written and verbal English language skills.
  • 2 - 5+ years of experience working in a global/multicultural organization, combined with leading funder/investor relationships, across multiple time zones is a strong plus.
