Job Description

• Monitors drinking water parameters using field equipment, e.g. pH
• Calibrates equipment and verify data
• Performs distribution system flushing operations
• Collects and analyses water samples
• Organises water-sampling schedules
• Performs water pressure tests for distribution systems using pressure-recording charts
• Conducts bacteriological and chemical testing on samples collected using standard laboratory procedures
• Monitors wells and other water sources
• Enters and updates data in testing and results databases
• Establishes and reviews monitoring programs relating to treatment plant processes and system compliance
• Compiles, records and interprets test results
• Analyses data and prepares various records and reports related to water quality regulatory monitoring

IN THE LAB:

• Prepares test solutions and processes samples
• Tests and analyses samples
• Develops test methodology
• Calibrates and maintains instruments

Required Skills or Experience

TECHNICAL

• Knowledge of techniques involved in taking water samples and performing related field measurements
• Knowledge of backflow assembly applications and testing
• Understanding of the use of basic and complex tools and equipment used in water monitoring and backflow prevention work.
• Knowledge of basic mathematical principles used in calculating measurements and calibrations
• Knowledge of installation, maintenance, and operation of backflow prevention assemblies
• Knowledge of occupational and safety precautions of the workplace.
• Knowledge of operational and maintenance practices of water distribution systems
• Understanding of the dynamics and characteristics of water pressure and flow.
