Job Description

Job Summary

The workshopmanager will be esponsible for planning, leading, organizing, supervising the day to day activities of the Workshop and and ensuring all matters relating to mechanical services are achieved.

Key Accountabilities

  •  Lead a group of mechanics and helpers within the workshop.
  • Performs trouble shooting and diagnostics procedure on vehicles and equipment.
  • Record observations and findings during a diagnostics run.
  • Decide on the correct method of repair, as necessary.
  • Hands-on supervision of all workshop activities, especially technical issues.
  • Forecast and order spare parts for specific jobs/special job or for stocks replenishment.
  • Supervise and follow up on actual progress of each individual repair job.
  • Provide on-the-job training as well as coaching and mentoring to mechanics, apprentises and helpers.
  • Follow up repair order, registering the time taken to complete each task.
  • Responsible for customer service, reliability and dependability by providing all fields with the technical assistance that they require from the workshop.
  • Facilitate the efficient delivery of mechanical services through communication, liaison, negotiation and coordination with internal and external clients to manage client relations. 
  • Provide recommendations on resources, productivity, work methods and associated costs in conjunction with the workshop staff to ensure the preparation of competitive estimates for major mechanical repairs / projects.
  • Conduct the continual monitoring and controlling of workshop expenses and monthly income and expenditure statements and provide the managing director with feedback to ensure workshop budget projections are achieved.
  • Adhere to current policies and procedures, and authorise purchase cards to ensure the procurement of spare parts and other services are carried out.

Required Skills or Experience

Work Experience

  • The applicant is to have a minimum of 7 year’s experience leading a workshop team.

Educational Qualification

  • A Degree/HND in automobile engineering.
  • Professional technical qualification.

Skills/Competencies

  • Well-honed leadership and management skills with an ability to motivate others.
  • Hands on ‘real-world’ mechanical experience and knowledge.
  • Computer literate.
  • Excellent grasp of the English language: verbal and written.
  • Sound judgment informed by extensive practical knowledge and experience.
  • Innovative, inventive and analytical, able to pre-empt and resolve problems with ease.
  • Agile, responsive and good under pressure.
  • Able to handle conflict and resolve differences of opinion.
