Job Description

A reputable Savings & Loans Company seek to recruit qualified, experienced and performance driven young individuals for the role of a Litigation Lawyer. 

  • DEPARTMENT:  LEGAL 
  • REPORTS TO:  CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

 

Job Purpose
To manage all phases of the litigation; from the investigation, pleadings, and discovery through to the pre-trial, trial, settlement, and appeal processes.

  • Conduct pre-claim investigation, legal research and initial case assessments.
  • Engage in pre-litigation settlement discussions to attempt to resolve the matter before a lawsuit is filed.
  • Interpret laws, rulings and regulations to relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare legal briefs and opinions, and file appeals where necessary.
  • Represent Company in court or before government agencies & regulatory authorities.
  • Analyze the probable outcomes of cases, using knowledge of legal precedents.
  • Gather evidence to formulate defense or to initiate legal actions, by such means as interviewing clients and witnesses to ascertain the facts of a case.
  • Draft pleadings, motions and appellate documents and file them in court.
  • Negotiate settlements of civil disputes.
  • Evaluate findings and develop strategies and arguments in preparation for presentation of cases.
  • Present evidence to defend the Company or to prosecute defendants in civil litigation.
  • Prepare and draft legal documents, such as deeds, mortgages, leases, and contracts.
  • Conduct general legal training for staff.
  • Drive the performance of the legal team.

Required Skills or Experience

Experience:

  • At least three years of litigation experience.
  • Work experience in the financial environment will de preferred. 
  • Very good knowledge and understanding of loan recovery management.
  • Solid understanding and application of regulatory compliance.

Qualification:

  • Must have a Bachelor degree in Law.
  • Must have a Qualifying Certificate in Law and a member of the Ghana Bar Association in good standing.

Competences, Skills & Attitudes:

  • Ability to influence and negotiate.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
  • Ability to collect and analyze information, identify key legal duty bearers and develop innovative legal solutions.
  • Must have a positive and dynamic attitude with a high sense of integrity.
  • Must be creative and confident to design and implement impactful litigation.
