Job Description

Our client, an international mining exploration and production firm is looking to hire a proactive HR Manager to help with their operations in Ghana.

ROLE PROFILE

The successful candidate will support the General Director and the Administrative Director by overseeing effective Human Resources. The candidate will develop and implement HR systems, including Human Resource policies; staff selection and recruitment; salary and benefits administration; performance management; visas support for Expats, training and development to ensure a positive and inclusive working environment.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determine staffing numbers, skills and needs to meet the company’s objectives.
  • Analyse the skills and qualities required for each particular job and develop job descriptions and duty statements.
  • Ensure effective administration of the recruitment process- advertise staff vacancies, assess applications, interview applicants, administer selection tests, prepare reports and make recommendations to management about staff appointments.
  • Responsible for a timely new starter and leaver administration including onboarding, pre-employment checks, induction, probation follow up, and exit interviews.
  • Lead the development and implementation of appropriate HR policies that comply with the organisation’s HR guidelines and local Ghanaian legislation, including a Performance Management Process.
  • Manage payroll and salary administration system, conduct periodic salary surveys to ensure that organisation’s salary scale is fair and positioned to attract and retain top quality staff.
  • Manage all staff benefits and insurance, ensuring that appropriate coverage is in place.
  • Maintain the personal records of employees on matters such as wages, leave and training, and prepare associated management reports.
  • Arrange and conduct staff training.
  • Support with facilitation of negotiations between the company and Union on Collective Agreements reviews and salary negotiations.
  • Participate in employee disciplinary process and grievance handling.
  • Ensure the enforcement of clauses that apply to industrial relations in the mining act and regulations.
  • Manage all travel processes, including securing work permits, entry visas for visiting staff and other stakeholders, and travel of local staff.
  • Provide advice and information to management and employees on human resource policies and procedures, including equal opportunity, anti-discrimination and occupational health and safety programs.

Required Skills or Experience

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Management Studies, Industrial/ Labour Relations and Industrial Psychology or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years working experience in a similar role in the multi-union environment within the mining industry.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Practical working knowledge of Labour and Immigration Laws, as well as global and local mobility practices.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions consistent with established company policy.
  • Ability to travel across the country.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent human relations skills and ability to interact with people of diverse cultures and values.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
