Job Description

Currently VIS GHANA is implementing the project ‘’Local Economic Empowerment for Women, Youth and Vulnerable groups through CSOs and LAs concerted action (LEEWYV)’’ financed by the European Union and the project ‘’Supporting local development tackling irregular migration from Ghana’’ financed by the Italian Bishop’s Conference.

In this framework, VIS GHANA is implementing TVET trainings in 10 Mentorship Farms in the Bono and Bono East Regions and is recruiting a Teacher in Organic Agriculture and Livestock Production. This is a full-time position based in Sunyani for 8 months with possibility of extension. The expecting start date is 08/11/2021

MAIN PURPOSE 
The Teacher in Organic Agriculture and Livestock Production will support the activities carried out by VIS GHANA within the above-mentioned project in the sector of Organic Agriculture and Livestock Production (TVET trainings, mini-grant and microcredit).

He/She will support the TVET trainings in Organic Agriculture, implemented in the 10 Mentorship Farms supported by the Program with monitoring activities and by delivering specific trainings in traditional livestock production (piggery and poultry), beekeeping, grasscutter production and mushroom cultivation. 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Focal point for all the activities carried out in Don Bosco Mentorship Farm (DBTI Agriculture Department), in particular organizing and delivering the TVET training (basic training and specialization course)
  • Organizing and delivering tailored training in beekeeping, grasscutter and mushroom for mentor farmers and trainees;
  • Organizing and delivering tailored training in piggery and poultry production
  • Organizing and delivering tailored training in organic agriculture and greenhouse technology
  • Monitor all livestock production managed by the mentor farmers and FATOUD beneficiaries (mini-grant and microcredit), in particular concerning beekeeping, grasscutter and mushroom
  • Assist and supervise mentor farmers in practical demonstration;
  • Assist and supervise the trainees in the preparation of business plan for livestock production;
  • Prepare and present monthly reports on the activities carried out;
  • Carry out other activities as may be directed by the Field Coordinator

CONDITIONS

  • Contract duration: 8 months
  • Salary range (gross): 1,500 GHS
  • Duty Station: Sunyani (Odumase), with frequent field mission in Bono and Bono East Regions. 

Required Skills or Experience

EDUCATION 

  • Minimum of Diploma in Agriculture
  • Specialization in beekeeping, grasscutter and mushroom
  • Specialization in Organic Agriculture (in particular Greenhouse Technology) 

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 1 year of previous working experience in the related field
  • Working experience with local and international NGOs will be considered an asset

LANGUAGES

  • English and Twi language essential.

KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES

  • Organic Agriculture, Traditional and non-traditional livestock production, in particular beekeeping, grasscutter and mushroom.
  • Organize and facilitate trainings;
  • Prepare business plan;
  • Basic computer literacy (word, excel and gmail suite)
  • Team work, flexibility, commitment
