Job Description

SITE MANAGER

LOCATION: Accra, Airport

CATEGORY: Construction

Our client, a construction company has immediate employment for a self-motivated, experienced and talented SITE MANAGER. He/she would be required to support the Country Director by working closely with the Group Construction Manager, design consultancy teams and other internal departments.

ROLE PROFILE

The Site Manager will be responsible for leading and managing all the site activities on a project, coordinating across disciplines, and supervising professional staff to ensure that construction meets all contractual requirements most cost-effectively and efficiently.  The responsibilities will be as detailed, but not limited to:

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and engage the workforce to enhance the productivity of the project.
  • Report openly and honestly, acknowledging problems, analysing, and providing seeking solutions
  • Review contract/tendering documentation to ensure a thorough understanding of the relevant contract requirements liaising with planning engineers and quantity surveyors to establish and implement systems for the works.
  • Before issue, assess the content of construction drawings and procedures so that construction execution is optimised in the most cost-effective and timely manner.
  • Ensure that all actions and activities assigned to the Site are implemented within agreed timescales at the mobilisation stage.
  • Establish together with relevant Managers and Engineers the resourcing requirements for the Site, including staffing, subcontractors etc., to ensure that these are accurate and realistic.
  • Plan/schedule Site priorities and ensure they are resourced in line with the construction schedule, monitor subsequent progress, and ensure corrective action is agreed upon and implemented where the variation from schedule occurs.
  • Seek technical advice and guidance in any contractual/legal matters or complications relevant to the Site to ensure that appropriate action is taken that does not compromise or expose the company to unnecessary risk.
  • Monitor the supervision of the work being undertaken within the Site (undertaking own checks where necessary), taking any necessary remedial action to ensure full compliance with all relevant standards, e.g. contract documents, specifications, method statements, policy and procedures
  • Establish and subsequently monitor all work processes and systems within the Site to ensure that Policies, local labour laws and Safety procedures are consistently implemented, taking effective remedial action where non-compliance is identified.
  • Ensure that standard reporting requirements are met on a timely and accurate basis so that the Project Management has the necessary up to date information and data to manage the project to meet its objectives effectively.
  • Contribute to a formal review of the project with relevant parties on completion to establish opportunities for learning/development to enhance future contracts.
  • Represent the company's interests with suppliers, Partners and third party contractors etc.
  • The Site Manager will be responsible to the Director and General Manager and will provide support, advice, report on, and control site activity.

 

Required Skills or Experience

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • 7-10 years experience of in managing construction projects
  • Experience with the construction of hospitals, if not then hotels or commercial offices.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in construction or engineering.
  • Knowledge of the FIDIC suite of contracts is an added advantage.
  • Previous experience working on MOH projects
  • Knowledge of African and European construction building standards and regulations

  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Enjoy working as part of a team to achieve common goals and company objectives.
  • Able to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills, self-motivated and proactive.
  • Process commercial and financial awareness.
  • Advanced technical skills in own discipline, good working knowledge of other disciplines
  • Work experience should cover both Site and office
  • Well-developed supervisory skills
  • Developing presentation skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to use a range of IT packages, including Microsoft Office and bespoke packages

Strong problem-solving skills and analytical skills

  • Possess an organised and logical approach to task management.
  • Customer-facing experience, as the face of the Company and first point of contact.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress easily.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • flexible but meticulous in their approach and confident in working independently with minimal supervision.
