COMPANY PROFILE

Arthropod Vector Biology Research Laboratories (AVBR Labs) is a group with research interest in vector-borne disease research and control.

REQUESTED SERVICES

The AVBR Labs is currently seeking firm, fixed-price bids (in the form of bill of Quantities) relating to the following services for their field office and logistics related to their research activities. All works/service will be based in Tamale.  

1. Renovation of Experimental Huts
2. Construction of Laboratory with offices
3. Provision of Transportation Services

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES/ WORKS

1. RENOVATION WORKS ON WEST-AFRICA TYPE EXPERIMENTAL HUTS

The style and dimensions of the experimental hut is based on traditional housing, with additional modifications as below (Figure II-A, Appendix II). One experimental hut has a total surface area of about 32.2m² constructed with the following:

• Concrete bricks,
• Corrugated iron roof,
• Ceiling of tarpaulin sheeting
• A concrete base surrounded by a water-filled moat to prevent the entry of ant.
• Four metal windows with a 3-cm slit fixed at an angle to create a funnel.
• A veranda trap made of tarpaulin and mosquito screening mesh fitted at the back of each hut.

The renovation works will be for Twelve (12) huts constructed at a community in Tamale.

Works on Main Rooms

1. Carefully hacking off existing internal/inner wall cement plastering of all 12 different Experimental huts.
2. The total surfaces area to volume ratio to be refurbished/removed and replastered with cement is about 32.2m²: 0.465m^3.
3. Removing and replacing tarpaulin ceiling with new tarpaulin ceiling of about 8m².
4. Fixing new ceiling buttons
5. Repairing any defects such as cracks in the room.
6. Replacement of torn tarpaulin and wire mesh in the verandah traps. With the ff dimensions
   • Tarpaulin 1.7m long x1.5m wide x 1.5m high
   • Metallic Mosquito mesh:  1.7m long x1.5m wide x 0.8m high

External Works

1. Repair defective apron concrete works with a surface area: 25m²
2. Repair all defective gutter/ant trap leakages, with the following dimensions 5m long x 5m wide x 0.4m deep.

Quotation for renovation works should be for one hut and then mutliplied by 12 for the gradn total for all 12 huts.

1. CONSTRUCTION OF THE LABORATORY WITH OFFICES

The main works will include construction of an 70m² Laboratory and office spaces made of

1. Concrete bricks
2. Corrugated iron roof,
3. Ceiling of plaster board
4. Rooms partitioned with plaster board.

Note: Outer Wall made of concrete materials; Interior wall plaster board/partitioning. Height of each room should be 3meters high. See Appendix III for detailed layout and specifications.

1. PROVISION OF TRANSPORTATION SERVICES

The main service required is for the supply of 1 4x4 pickup vehicle for transporting the project staff to field (villages within the northern region and in Tamale.  Specifications and guidance include

Guidance to note

1. All vehicles must be insured with passengers’ insurance.
2. Maintenance and other vehicle repairs will be the responsibility of the Vendor/ Transport Company.  
3. Vehicle must be in very good operating condition.
4. Proof of technical inspection and road worthy certificate issued by Ghana’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) is required.
5. A vehicle that is offered with worn out tires and mechanical issues will be eliminated from providing the stated service and promptly replaced.
6. The successful bidder/vendor will provide vehicle with an experienced driver (i.e., valid license and minimum of 4 years driving experience)
7. The vendor shall be responsible for drivers’ daily expenses such as: Salary, per diem, lodging and other expenses related to this agreement.
8. The vendor/ driver will not be allowed to carry unauthorized passengers who are not project staff during the duration of this contract.
